Update: It's A Miracle The Victim Of This Horrific Hit And Run Survived

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 53-year-old man was launched into the air by a speeding Fiat 500 in Brighton, England. Warning: this video contains footage that some people may find distressing

Police in Sussex, England, have just released CCTV footage of a horrific hit and run incident that took place in Brighton. The video shows the moment a 53-year-old man was struck by a Fiat 500 while crossing the street.

On 14 January at 3.40pm, the man began crossing the road shortly before a Fiat 500 careens around the corner well in excess of the speed limit. The driver makes a quick left off the main road - probably because another car is pulling out and blocking his path - where he strikes the man. The victim is then launched into the air and lands in a heap on the floor suffering from “serious head injuries” as the white Fiat continues up the road without stopping.

Police have released the video in an attempt to identify the driver of the vehicle:

Sergeant Dan Pitcher said: “We are very keen to trace the drivers of the taxi, the silver van, the dark Ford Focus and the black parked car. We think you could give us vital information we need to identify the driver.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened or can give us information which will help with our investigation. The Fiat drove off leaving the victim for dead and clearly they would have known they had hit someone. The pedestrian, a man from Hove, suffered serious head injuries and is thankfully making a recovery.”

If you recognise yourself or the vehicle you were in please get in touch on collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or 101 quoting Operation Northdown.

The footage comes just a few days after Sussex Police released shocking footage of a biker hitting 153mph on the road, and should serve as a timely explanation as to why the police pull over speeders for those of you who whinged about it. No, speeding isn’t inherently dangerous, but there’s a time and a place. Miraculously, the victim is recovering in hospital.

Sussex police has announced that it has arrested two people in connection with the hit and run. A 31-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman have been picked up by police after the man was found hiding on a roof.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing serious injury, attempting to pervert the course of justice and aggravated vehicle taking. The woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

It’s definitely a low-spec model, probably 500 1.2 Pop 69bhp, do hope they find the driver

Shame it wasn’t in the Netherlands. We have this website that is for weird and fun videos, but occasionally a video comes up about violence, and the users can find personal info on the people involved within 30min.

It’s really sad that people who dislike driving still are allowed to drive. I mean, I’m okay with that, but if they’re going to put other people in danger like in this video, then their driving priviliges should be revoked.

The hangtime that the victim got is scary. I hope they find the fleeing suspect. Horrible.

Jesus bloody hell, thats awful. I have watched someone get hit by a vehicle (not to that extent) and it truly isn’t a thing you want to see.

slight detour from that anyone notice the Type R lady driver though, if Carlsberg did women.

Wow, didn’t think a Fiat 500 could go that fast. Hope they catch who is responsible.

How can they not know who is driving the “other vehicles”, especially the Ford Focus with its numberplate clearly visible, one search on the database and it returns the owners name and address surely?
