Is The Mercedes-AMG GT R Quicker Than A Nissan GT-R?

This video from Car Wow intends to find out who makes the better GT-R: Nissan, or Mercedes?
Remote video URL

These two cars may almost share the same name, but they’re conceptually rather different. The Nissan has an all-wheel drive system, whereas the Mercedes powers the rear wheels exclusively. The former car has a V6 while the latter opts for a V8, and, err, one has a hyphen in the name and the other doesn’t.

But which is quicker? The Japanese car should easily grasp victory in a standing start race given that it supposedly does 0-62mph in three seconds dead - 0.6sec quicker than the official time for the AMG - but we all know how optimistic the GT hyphen R benchmark acceleration figure is.

Plus, on the rolling start race that comes up next in this Car Wow test, the Nissan’s all-wheel drive system is less of a factor, and the braking test - well, that’s anyone’s guess.

Place your bets, then press play.

Kind of expected a result like this. GTR gets a better launch but then RWD gets you the top speed.

High time for Nissan to replace it… After all the GT-R is technically 10 years old…

Well, Nissan really seems to like to keep their cars as old as possible (exception made with their SUVs): I mean look at the Frontier, which has not really changed since 2006; the 370Z, which is pretty much the same since it was launched; the GT-R, which saw its price climbing constantly since almost 10 years (it was about $81k brand new in 2009: now it starts at $125k), etc..

Not surprising they ended up with Mitsubishi (and that’s coming from a guy who loves Mitsubishi and saw four Mitsubishis going in the family).

Anyone notice he said the GT-R has a 3.6-litre V6? Should be 3.8.

Wouldn’t be better to race the GT R against the Nismo GT-R, as the AMG GT R is the top tier performance trim for the AMG GT

Congratulations, you’re “that guy” who still makes jokes about the nonexistant butthurt GT-R fanboys.
