Update: IndyCar Driver Airlifted To Hospital After Nose Cone Hits Him In The Head

IndyCar driver Justin Wilson has been airlifted to hospital with a head injury after being struck by debris during the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday.

Sage Karam spun and hit the wall heavily on lap 179 while leading. As Wilson attempted to avoid the crashed IndyCar, he was hit by part of the nosecone and went straight on into the inside barrier.

Medical teams quickly attended both drivers and Karam was extracted from his car, walking away with a small limp. Wilson required more attention from the medical crew. The Andretti driver was taken via ambulance to the helicopter and was then transported to Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital.

IndyCar later shared on Twitter that he was airlifted to hospital with a head injury and more information on Wilson’s condition will be communicated when available.
