If You're Stupidly Rich, You Could Buy This 'Brand New' Mercedes CLK GTR

If we were absolutely loaded, we'd totally bid on this unused V12 CLK GTR, which is being auctioned off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month
If You're Stupidly Rich, You Could Buy This 'Brand New' Mercedes CLK GTR

The CLK GTR - Merc’s mad homologation special of the 1990s - is rather rare, with just 20 built. The roadster version is rarer still; just six were made. However, if you missed the boat the first time around, and you’re absolutely loaded, we have good news! Bonhams will be auctioning one off at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and according to Auto Visie, it has just six kilometres on the clock.

So, how much for an essentially brand-new 90s supercar? Anywhere from £1.4-1.8 million, according to Bonhams’ estimate. Yikes. For that, you’ll get one of the most extreme supercars ever built (it’s scarcely different from the racing version which cleaned up in GT1 racing in the late 1990s), with a mid-mounted 6.9-litre V12 producing 604bhp slotted into a chassis made from carbonfibre and aluminium. And while the estimate price does seem steep, these cars were never cheap: the roadster’s original price was around $1.5 million.

We’ll find out exactly what price it fetches on 26 June when it goes under the hammer at Goodwood Estate.
