Here's Why The Cadillac ELR Was Horrific Value For Money

Cadillac expected people to stump up $76,000 for the short-lived ELR plug-in hybrid when it was new, but as Doug DeMuro explains, it really wasn't worth it...

We’ve always thought the Cadillac ELR was quite the looker in a striking sort of way, but the trouble is, proceedings go sharply downhill when you peer under its angular body.

There, as Doug DeMuro explains, you’ll find a powertrain lifted largely from the Chevrolet Volt. Which cost about half as much. Oh, and less practicality, and not much in the way of equipment.

It’s perhaps no surprise then, that the ELR has been hit with some pretty savage depreciation. Currently, you can snag an early car for under $30,000…

So some guy walked into a Cadillac dealer and saw a cts-v, ats-v, and escalade but skipped over all of them to buy a chevy volt with shiny chrome

Both of these are good movies, but how does that have to do with the article?

Cadillac has been in decline since the 1970s, but they’re not as bad as Buick these days, sheesh!!

This thing reminds me of the old Cadillac Cimarron, a very similar attempt to sell a gussied-up Chevy at twice the price.

There’s supposed to be a picture of it in Cadillac’s headquarters reminding them to never make that mistake again. Seems like someone removed it in 2014.

I drove one of the 14 new model hybrid Cadillacs in the country last week. Same price point I believe. It was really nice, but it’s only going to be sold seriously in the Chinese market. They don’t expect them to see in the US but making it available here helps their MPG targets for the Range and they can sell normal cars.
