Here's What The New Four-Cylinder Jaguar F-Type Sounds Like
In case you missed the news earlier this week, Jaguar is indeed putting an F-Type into production with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot under the bonnet.
With 297bhp and a 52kg drop in weight relative to the V6, you won’t be wanting for performance. In fact, to 60mph it’s actually a smidge quicker than the base six-pot. But what about noise? Well, we now have our first chance to hear the Ingenium lump in action.
We get a couple of short bursts of noise in the promotional video above (skip to around the 50sec and 1min 30sec marks if you don’t want to sit through the whole thing). It’s not enough to make a firm judgement, although it certainly sounds like Jaguar’s engineers have worked hard to extract a decent din from the uninspiring cylinder configuration.

My Ford Galaxy 2007 is also a 2.0 turbocharged but doesn’t sound that good :((

My dad’s SEAT Ateca 4drive has a 2-litre turbocharged diesel 4, and it sounds pretty decent. More of a bassy, low hum with almost a hint of 6-cylinder in there. Not sure how much is electronically boosted though :/

Yes, it does sound like some classic sports cars! Not just the MGB but many cars back then sounded like this!
A 4 cylinder F type may sound good a be light but nobody will buy a Jaguar Because of Fuel efficency
People buy Jaguars because for the driving Experience
It’s just their way of saying “an F-Type for slightly less rich customers”

Sounds like all the other boring 2.0 4-cylinder engines. Who in their right mind would buy one of these? Honestly?

As others have said, it provides a great entry point for those who want an F-Type, but don’t wish to obliterate their bank account to get one. Admittedly, I would personally be patient and save up for the supercharged V6 model, but I digress.
I’m sure this will be the perfect car for those who are after a new Jag within their budget. No shame in that.
