Here’s What The ‘BMW-Powered’ 2020 Jaguar F-Type Will Sound Like
The 2020 Jaguar F-Type has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring – and there’s a suspicious change in exhaust note on this footage from YouTuber Carspotter Jeroen.
We’ve known for some time that Jaguar had terminated the production contract it has with Ford, which makes JLR’s excellent V6s and V8s at a dedicated facility at its Bridgend plant. What is still unconfirmed is which engine will replace the flagship V8.
It’s fair to suspect that the F-Type’s lower models will be catered for by four-cylinder and straight-six mild hybrid power, but this Nurburgring test mule is clearly packing something a little tastier, if something not quite so raucous as the supercharged 5.0 that’s coming to the end of its life.
The rumour mill suggests it’s a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 from BMW, and while we can’t be sure of its exact origins it definitely does sound like a snail-fed unit. It still seems to get a bit angry on full-bore upshifts, though, so there’s a suggestion that not all of the traditional Jaguar rudeness will have been lost. A lot of people on this site act like that’s a bad thing. A BMW-engined sports car definetly fits better in Jaguar’s product range than the rebadged Ford Mondeo they used to make (the ancient Ford 2.2l TDCi is still an option in the new Jaguar XE).

Nothing else being put in that car will have the same effect the old V8 has. I needed a change of underwear the first time I heard the F type R start up back in 2013
Both cars have been registered for road use since March this year according to the government website. Interestingly, the convertible with the blue wing-mirrors is down as being painted black. I guess both cars must still be in the Frankenstein stage of development.
You are incorrect. What you see is simply that the convertible will have black A-pillars from now on. Like the Project 7 or Corvette C7 etc. they all have black A-pillars.
does BMW have a wholesale discount on their engines or what?
