Here's The First 'Hobbs & Shaw' F&F Spinoff Trailer

It should come as no surprise that Hobbs & Shaw - the first Fast and Furious spin-off - is going to be rather silly. At least that’s how it looks in this first trailer.

The setup is standard action film fare. Idris Elba plays Brixton, who’s hell-bent on bringing the world to its knees with a stolen bio weapon. Oh, and did we mention he’s a supersoldier? Yep, we’re ticking all the boxes here, and that’s before we get to the solution proposed by The Powers That Be.

Apparently, the only way he can possibly be stopped is by sending in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham, aka Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. Of course, they hate each other, so will end up working through their issues using manly banter until inevitably figuring out that they’re bros.

Keeping some sort of tenuous link with the Fast and Furious franchise, or at least the more recent films in the series, there is plenty of vehicular destruction, plus a sizeable role for the McLaren 720S. At one point it’ll have three people in it, which we really hope is supposed to be a clever reference to the old F1. Even if it probably isn’t.

Hobbs & Shaw will be released on 2 August.
