Here's Porsche's 935 Moby Dick Recreation Looking Mean During Testing

Stuttgart's 911 GT2 RS-based 935/78 recreation has been spotted undergoing testing at Monza sans livery

A few days on since Porsche first revealed its delicious new 935, we’re still a little stunned. Yes, it’s almost surprising it’s taken Stuttgart this long to come up with something like this 911 GT2 RS-based beast, but the car still came as a shock last week.

It looks superb in its Martini-esque livery, but as we’re finding out from this Monza-shot testing footage, it looks pretty damn good without a livery too. How menacing does this test car look in matte black? It sounds suitably mean too.

Under its retro-inspired carbon composite body panels, it’s mechanically unchanged from the standard RS, meaning you have a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six mounted up back producing 690bhp. It sends its angry thrust to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch ‘PDK’ automatic gearbox.

Here's Porsche's 935 Moby Dick Recreation Looking Mean During Testing

It’s 300mm longer than a stock GT2 RS and is littered with parts from contemporary Porsche racing cars, including rear wing endplates from a 919 LMP1 machine, wing mirrors donated by the 911 RSR programme, and a carbonfibre steering wheel plus digital instrument cluster usually found on a 911 GT3 R.

Just 77 will be made, each costing €701,948 plus local taxes. We imagine they’re all spoken for.

Looks better in black, especially with the headlights so low down, wish more cars had that look.

Considering the current prices of super limited production track-only cars…. i can’t believe i’d say this but the price is actually somewhat okay

I think it would look good in the red and yellow livery from the 1980’s! The engine note is magical and that crackle it makes, especially inthe beginning is otherworldly!
