On Friday Brendan Gaughan brought his Richard Childress Racing No. 62 Chevrolet into the pits on lap 113 at the Richmond International Raceway. A spark triggered a huge fire, with tyre changer Anthony O’Brien and fuel man Josh Wittman getting caught up in the blaze.

They were both transported to hospital, as was a member of the team next door - Clifford Turner - who helped out. However, he was released on Friday night.

Update:

Richard Childress Racing confirmed that Wittman was released on Saturday, while O’Brien is in a “good condition” but remains in hospital for further evaluation.
