GTA Online’s New Tiny Racers Adversary Mode Is Absolutely Mad, But Not Perfect

We're been trying out GTA Online’s brand-new adversary mode Tiny Racers, and it takes stunt racing to another level of chaos, drama and action
GTA Online’s New Tiny Racers Adversary Mode Is Absolutely Mad, But Not Perfect

The new Tiny Racers adversary mode for GTA Online merges the classic, top-down view of retro GTA with the mayhem and fast-paced nature of Stunt Series racing. It uses stunt tracks, current GTA V cars and a birds-eye-view camera angle to create some pretty chaotic online racing.

Power-ups with rockets, bombs and special vehicles mean the aim of the game is simply to stay alive and in the lead. It’s playable in GTA Online for up to four players, with a gradually-decreasing safety area placed around whoever is at the front of the field.

To win, you basically have to destroy the other players either on the race track or by increasing your lead enough for them to drop out of the safety zone. Because, they then blow up.

You have to outrun the others, with the winner getting one point. The first to five takes overall victory and the biggest amount of cash.

The Tiny Racers addition is a completely new way of playing GTA V stunt races. Due to the top-down view and array of weapons and special vehicles, like the ramp car, it makes for manic racing. It definitely looks pretty damn cool, with a proper old-school vibe harking back to the original GTA, and the gameplay is enjoyable to start with.

The new adversary mode also pays generously for now, with double money and RP for players. Which is incredibly tempting. Although, because of its nature, rounds can either last forever (and be great because of it) or be over in the space of a few seconds. There’s no in between.

It’s also tricky to get used to, especially at the very beginning. The cars spin out very easily and the gameplay is much more arcade-like in feel, which some won’t be fans of. The overall way you play the game is also a bit frustrating. It’s quick, crazy and chaotic, but we’d prefer longer races and cars that don’t spin out so easily.

Your race can be over in two seconds if you get pitched into a spin at the start, which is pretty inevitable on GTA Online.

It’s great Rockstar continues to add new game modes and Tiny Racers is a fun new way of playing online races, when you’re doing well. There’s definitely a lot going on at all times…

But that doesn’t stop it from being kind of annoying and difficult to play, and loading times weren’t particularly great either (my game even crashed once). Overall, it’s a mixed bag. Give it a go and let us know what you think!

I think that GTA is trying to be old school but in Hot Wheels and you cannot get out of ur car mode. Bonus: It’s equipped with Death mode as well.

It’s an absolute terrible mode, such as all the other Advesary modes (part from Ressurection) The game mode is too short, and you can barely play it. It’s impossible to recover, jumps are hard to judge how you land. The barriors doesn’t help, just makes it even more horrific, the weapons are useless. It’s not even a race, it’s an advesary mode & it definitley should’ve another name. Not what I expected, only pure stress and bs

It reminds me of Micro Machines that’s for sure. It isn’t perfect, but Micro Machines wasn’t either. It has a lot of nostalgia either way, be it the top down view or the car combat.

What about a better way to edit maps Rockstar?

(really the editing and creation of maps are horrible)

I tried it with friends to get the hang of it and the one thing I noticed is that whenever you get a point, you start on the last checkpoint you crossed, meaning that you know the corner and where is the powerup that you need. We solved the race in one corner because one of us would get there first, get the rocket and fire it. Solution, either have players resume racing on the FOLLOWING checkpoint, or shuffle the powerups between rounds. Otherwise, it’s fun.

Besides, the game is a bit buggy. Many times one of us would start with the car tilted to the side, or one of us would be off the line before the go signal.
