Within just a few days of last week’s unexpected early viewing of the new Z4 Concept, we’re now seeing the all-new M5 ahead of schedule. Yep, it’s another BMW product leak, concerning a car we’ve sort of already seen thanks to its appearance in the Need For Speed Payback announcement.

Unlike the Z4 images, the set of pictures for the M5 - which appeared on Bimmerpost and other enthusiast forums - are fairly low quality. Still, they’re clear enough to give us a good look at the new super saloon from all angles.

Much like the old F10 M5, it’s still a fairly subtle thing. We have a new, aggressive front bumper, a new rear bumper/diffuser combo, quad tailpipes and ever-so-slightly widened wheel arches. Oh, and the distinctive, low-slung gills of the standard 5-series are gone, replaced with an M-branded pair mounted much higher up the front wing.

We don’t have any new details about the car, but BMW previously revealed that the car will have a switchable four-wheel drive system. So, it’ll be monstrously fast off the line and extremely capable in the bends if in ‘4WD’ or ‘4WD Sport’ mode, but can easily be switched to rear-wheel drive for tyre-shredding tomfoolery. We like.

Power will come from an evolution of the F10’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, producing in excess of 600bhp. We don’t know exactly how powerful or fast it’ll be, but since its 455bhp M550i wee brother is already quicker to 62mph than the old M5, we can expect some rather spectacular figures.

Fortunately, we don’t have long to wait for the juicy details: all should be revealed later today…

Who was actually first with the switchable 4WD? Mercedes with the E63 or BMW with the M5?

E63.
But the E63 can’t do RWD without being in manual mode.
The M5 can do it in auto aswell I think

I am sooo tired of these “leaks”. Just let them be normal uncovers or whatever

Might be the dullest M car ever, it’s lost the looks which properly differentiate it from the 3 series, the M5 now is JUST basically a LWB M3, in terms of looks

It looks so uninteresting, I’m quite disappointed actually, although I knew that right from the beginning
