My Top 5 Most Favourite Cars In The World...

We all have a favourite car. Most JDM fanboys’ favourite cars will be something like a Nissan GT-R or Toyota Supra, and for the young petrolheads out there, it will be something like a Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti or Pagani.

Whatever it may be, the fact is that pretty much every petrolhead out there (and some non-petrolheads as well) will have a favourite car of their own, whether it be something Italian and exotic like a Ferrari or Lamborghini, a comfortable German Luxo-barge like a BMW or Mercedes-Benz, or something with beautiful looks and sexy lines like an Alfa Romeo or Maserati.

So I’m going to share with you my top 5 most favourite cars in the world at the time of writing this article. Here we go…

5. Lincoln Town Car

Ahh, the Lincoln Town Car, one of the last true American luxury cars. The Town Car, in my opinion was one of the greatest cars ever to come from America and the last of the proper, full-size American luxury saloons (I used ‘saloon’ because I’m British, but Americans will use ‘sedan’), all 5.5 metres of it with a comfortable interior, a body-on-frame design, and a big V8 at the front with drive going to the rear wheels.

Powered by a lazy and under-stressed 4.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 making all of 239 bhp and 389 Nm of torque in its most powerful form starting with the final revision in 2003, the Town Car isn’t going to be winning any races with a 0-62 mph time of 9.2 seconds, but that’s not what the Town Car is about.

Now, at this point, some of you will be like, “Only 239 bhp from 4.6 litres and 0-62 in 9.2 seconds?! That’s pathetic!” But what you need to understand is this: The Town Car isn’t about speed or horsepower or quarter mile times. It’s all about delivering a smooth, comfortable and luxurious ride at any speed, and the Town Car delivers this in spades. (this also applies to the Town Car’s sister cars, the Ford Crown Victoria & the Mercury Grand Marquis) It’s because of this that I like to think of the Town Car as a ‘poor man’s Mercedes S-Class’.

Not only that, but because of the body-on-frame design and that under-stressed V8, the Town Car is notoriously reliable - one Town Car featured on Scotty Kilmer’s ‘Show-Off Sunday’ series on YouTube had done 486,000 miles (486,609 miles, to be exact) at the time of filming.

Oh, and they’re also great cars to turn into lowriders, apparently - take this 1998 model featured in the video below as an example…

4. E9x BMW 335i

The E9x BMW 335i - whether it’s a saloon (E90), coupe (E92), convertible (E93) or a Touring estate (E91), there’s no denying the fact that this is one of my most favourite cars in the world. Its N54 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-6 engine (N55 for models produced since 2009) sends 302 bhp and 400 Nm of torque - or 322 bhp and 500 Nm in the 335is - to the rear wheels through either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed auto.

One of many reasons why this is on the list of my most favourite cars in the world is this: the N54 engine in this car is known for being a very tunable engine - just a simple remap can get you an extra 20-25bhp. but frankly, that’s nothing compared to what the one featured in the video below, a 2007 335i Touring from the Netherlands, is producing. Its N54 engine has been tuned to produce a frankly ridiculous 900 bhp - that’s more than an Aston Martin Vulcan or a Porsche 918 Spyder! It’s also an entire Ferrari 458 Speciale more power than what it originally made when it was stock…

But as crazy and as awesome as it would be to have hypercar-humiliating levels of power in a car like this, the truth is most 335i owners will be perfectly happy keeping theirs stock, and personally, I would as well if I had one, which I don’t, as at the time of writing this I haven’t passed my driving test yet anyway.

3. Audi SQ7

The Audi SQ7 is another one of my most favourite cars in the world for many reasons. The first being that it’s just as practical as the normal Q7 on which it’s based - seven seats mean that there’s plenty of space for the family, and they will really like the luxurious feeling of the interior and those lovely quilted leather seats…

And thanks to the two extra seats in the boot, if one of your kids wants to bring his or her friend along for the school run, then they can do just that. Not only that but with all the seats folded down, the boot, like that of the normal Q7, is positively cavernous, which is great for when you’ve been to IKEA and need to load up the flat-packed furniture you just bought from there.

Another reason is the performance - thanks to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 diesel engine with an electric supercharger making 429 bhp and a whopping 900 Nm of torque, it can get from 0-62 in just 4.9 seconds - quicker than a Subaru WRX STI! And after that, it will then keep on going all the way up to a limited top speed of 155 mph. Plus, the combination of discreet performance add-ons and rapid performance is sure to surprise hot hatch drivers at the next traffic light grand prix…

2. Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate

The Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate is just one of my dream family cars, with outrageous power and performance wrapped up in a practical package. Yes, you would have to be galactically stupid to actually have an E63 S Estate as a family car, but that doesn’t stop it from being one of my all-time dream family cars, and one of my most favourite cars in the world too.

The reasons why it ended up on this list are much the same reasons as to why the aforementioned SQ7 made it onto the list - it’s just as practical as the normal E-Class Estate on which it’s based, but thanks to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 making 604 bhp and 850 Nm of torque driving all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox, 0-62 mph is dealt with in just 3.5 seconds, which incredibly, is quicker than a Ferrari F40!

Plus, I think it looks rather brilliant for a performance estate as well…

1. Rimac C_Two

And now we’ve made it to my most favourite car of all time. An all-electric hypercar hailing from Croatia. The Rimac C_Two.

There are a variety of reasons as to why this is at number 1 on the list. The first is that I think it’s rather beautiful and good looking, in a futuristic kind of way. The second is the technology on board - in addition to lane assist and auto emergency braking (something you’d expect to find on luxury saloons, not ludicrously powerful hypercars), it’s ready for Level 4 autonomy, thanks to the use of eight cameras, a lidar, six radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, and according to Rimac, 6 GB worth of data is generated for every hour that is spent in the car - this isn’t so much a car as a laptop on wheels.

Not only that but they also say that it can also read the driver’s mood as well - so if they’re not exactly in the best sort of mood, the car will soften its ride and play soothing music to calm them down…

In fact, click on the YouTube video below for a detailed walkaround of the C_Two by the amazing Shmee150…

Another reason why this is my most favourite car in the world is the performace, so strap yourselves in and prepare yourselves for a frankly absurd and ridiculous set of numbers…

Combined, the car’s four electric motors make a whopping 1,887 bhp and 2,300 Nm of torque, which means 0-62 mph takes just 1.97 seconds. One. Point. Nine. Seven. Seconds. And if the driver somehow remains conscious after that, it will have then cracked 0-100 mph in 4.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 9.1 seconds - quicker than even the mighty Dodge Demon…

But it doesn’t end there. 0-186 mph takes just 11.8 seconds and top speed? 258 mph. This is thanks to the use of two single-speed gearboxes for the front wheels and two two-speed gearboxes at the rear.

No wonder then, that when you take into consideration the looks, the tech and the performance, you can understand why the Rimac C_Two is my most favourite car in the world - and will be for quite some time…
