Facepalm: F1 Websites Caught Out By Joke Alonso Taxi Invoice

Would Ferrari really give Mark Webber an invoice for hitching a lift with Alonso? Some obviously think so...

It's amazing how a joke picture posted on Twitter - based on Webber and Alonso's Singapore Grand Prix liftgate incident - has produced such a stir online.

Rob Sinfield is a Formula 1 tweeter and blogger; if you're a fan of Formula 1 and live each day 140 characters at a time, you've probably seen his work.

So after Mark Webber hitched a lift with Fernando Alonso after the Singapore Grand Prix, a joke Ferrari invoice for Alonso's taxi service was drawn up and posted online by the Brit during a 'quiet lunch break'.

The fake invoice stated rather hilariously that Webber was being charged $25,000 for the taxi fare with a $2,500 tip for the Spaniard's transportation services.

However, a number of F1 websites, including the respected Sport BILD in Germany and Planet F1, fell into the trap and rather unbelievably reported on the invoice thinking it was actually from Ferrari.

Now Ferrari's Twitter account - which is usually so corporate and Italian - has commented, saying:

Sinfield was later interviewed by Sport BILD, apologising for the invoice, although we're not too sure what he has to apologise for. Shouldn't it be the other way round?

Meanwhile Fernando Alonso reacted to liftgate in his own hilarious way:
