Doug DeMuro's Ford GT Has Already Cost Him $28,000

Running a supercar isn't a cheap business, and sure enough, DeMuro has already sunk thousands of dollars into his GT

Columnist and quirk-loving YouTuber Doug DeMuro has only owned his Ford GT a few weeks, but he’s already had to sink $28,000 into the car.

On the face of it, that seems pretty painful, even for running an exotic car. But thankfully, much of that figure is made up of one-off costs, the biggest being sales tax. Registering the car in California proved to be particularly expensive, meaning this GT effectively wears a $17,000 number plate.

It’s better news for the insurance, however, which came in at just under $1000 a year - actually a little less than Doug pays for his Mercedes-AMG E63 wagon.

A $7000 clear wrap is another cost that won’t have to be repeated and is an optional expenditure anyway. Finally, a service came in at around $2800, which - considering the kind of car this is - actually doesn’t seem that bad.

Will any other big bills crop up? We’ll have to wait and see…

TBH doesn’t seem bad at all when you consider on what he spent the money

Right? It all sounds ridiculous at first but as he goes into it, it starts to make more sense. Except the Cali sales tax, that’s not ever going to make sense from a buying perspective. $17 Gs for a plate?

The insurance is $1000 per 6 months, not a year. Doug states it in the video.

Excuse me in Ireland I insure a ek 98 civic for 2400 euro a year and 3 years later a 2010 renaul scenic 1.5 for 700 euros so I think 900 dollars for a 500 hp car is very cheap
