Doug DeMuro Is (Sort Of) Sorry For Being Mean About The Land Rover Defender

After say some less than complimentary things about the Defender, DeMuro found himself swamped with angry comments from British viewers. Thankfully, he's seen sense and apologised for this 'outrage'. Kind of...

The Brits definitely Defended the Land Rover

It is a British icon and up there with the Mini, but Doug wasn’t wrong. But then again the Defender was never designed to be a normal car, it’s simple and utilitarian for a very good reason. I think a lot of people got the wrong message from this video, he was trying to justify the massive price increases in them. which can only be down to how awesome the Defender is and certainly not it’s luxury or performance.

The overbearing and controlling mother that drove it’s child away with it’s domestic abuse issues and has regretted it ever since.

I’m sorry, but going off-road in a defender is one of my favourite childhood memories, getting ice cream and going on a Sunday drive, if i could i would daily drive one. You buy a British car and expect to maintain it, it is not our fault (British) people across the pond cannot look after their cars (talking about the few not many - i do apologise to the vast majority of people who do look after their car) an example is a mates dad, who has had a defender for 20 - 30 years old and the only thing to brake was the radio…. It is also a car designed for farm work, its not a whole country’s fault that middle aged women have decided to adopt this car as a ‘luxury car’ (which is what most are used for). sorry for the rant it is over

Why should he apologize for a bad car?

I completely agree. I could give to craps on who made the car. It is how the car performs.

I’m not defending the Defender (pun maybe intended) but everything he said is true…if you’re it comparing to a normal car. The simple fact is that the Defender is far from normal and that’s why it has so many fans. It was always designed to be simple and utilitarian, heck, the most significant changes in its 68 year life were the introduction of diesel engines (which I don’t think the US ever got) and coil springs. It’s a bad car but a brilliant platform, it’s ridiculously capable off-road as standard and easy to fix when (and it will) goes wrong. If your interested in what the Defender was designed for then have a look for the ‘Camel Trophy’ on YouTube, then you’ll see what Defenders are all about.

Whilst I did find parts of this video and the previous one on the defender quite funny, all this really does is cement my original assumption that he deliberately tries to make every British car he stumbled across look terrible.
