Yes.
According to this article, the gti is 210 horsepower / 258 lb.-ft. torque and 0-60 time of 5.9. So by these numbers it is faster than our car which has 205hp/ 158 lb-ft and 0-60 of 7. However, a header back exhaust and tune solves some of the power and torque issues. The GT86 will be better in the corners due to low cog. Another advantage is RWD vs the golfs FWD. Also driving style has a lot to do with whether or not the 86 is fast or slow. If you keep the revs above 4-5000 its fast.
I had a GTI before my 86. Its just different. It really depends on you.
If you are looking for the faster car in a straight line, it’s the GTI. this only gets more of a win with just a few upgrades to the VW. with a grand into the GTI, it’ll make more power than you can get with the 86 unless you spend BIG bucks on it.
If you’re looking for a nice usable DD, with occasional backroads driving, the GTI is again very hard to beat.
If you plan on using the back seat, gti.
In all other situations… ALL OF THEM, the 86 platform cars are better.
Ooo ok thanks
For the most part, better doesn’t equal faster
If you are really looking just for performance the GTI might be the better car for you. It also is the better daily. But an 86 has much more character and is more special for me. It’s not about being the perfect daily, it’s made for pure fun. And it is, the handling is brilliant and in corners you can still outrun an GTI if you drive good enough. It’s your prefference, if you are only looking for performance, the 86 isn’t the car for you.
If i use for daily car and i also need it for race and i need the comfortable too
Im so confused hahaha
What to but

It’s really preference man… the 86 is more stylish and as glight said, there are bolt on turbo kits that are available for the Toyota 86, therefore giving a power boost of around 50-70hp, but you can definitely get more out of it depending on what other supporting mods you do.
