Chevrolet Finally Confirms The C8 Corvette And A July Reveal Date
A new ‘C8’ Chevrolet Corvette is on the way, and it’ll be mid-engined. We know that, you know that, and yet, Chevrolet hasn’t officially uttered a word about the car’s existence. Until now.
The company posted a single image of a camouflaged test mule on its Facebook page - clearly showing a mid-engined silhouette that’s radically different to any ‘Vette before it. With the image is the caption “The Next Generation Corvette journey begins now. Join the excitement:” followed by a link where you can sign up to receive news about the car.
Chevrolet hasn’t given any technical details about the car or even confirmed the fact it’s mid-engined, but we have been given a reveal date: 18 July 2019. You might want to pop that in your Google Calendar now.
We had been expecting to see the C8 a little sooner, but the car is understood to have been delayed by electrical issues. Another reported issue concerns the more powerful engines actually twisting the frames of prototypes. Vin Diesel would be proud.
Turbocharged variants could well be on the menu, but it’s thought the entry-level model will still have a good old-fashioned naturally-aspirated V8.

The orginal design team pushed for a mid-engine layout though … if anything it SHOULD be called Corvette.
Honestly if they called it an areovette nobody would have hurt feelings about the new vette
I wish they continued producing the Corvette, and introduced this as the Zora, named after the engineer who advocated his whole life to making the mid engine vette. The base Corvette (C7) was still attainable, and was a super fun car to drive and have fun with. It’s a big step up from the Camaro, and the Zora would slot above it, competing with the likes of other mid engine supercars.

But, today, the Camaro’s chassis is so good. So, for me it’s fine if they don’t sell front-engined Corvette anymore
I still dont think i can process a mid engine, i just dont like change in what we are all used to, and if it has anything else other than a V8 i will be pissed and disappointed

I’m really happy about the change of the engine layout and I definitely can’t wait to see it! I’m also really happy to see the revival of the forgotten 1990 Chevrolet Corvette CERV III concept car.
My college professor doesn’t have that high of an opinion of the C8. While he does believe that it will be a beast of a car, it just doesn’t feel right to call it a Corvette.

Having a mid engined corvette is a bit like making a front engined 911 it just feels odd
