More than 140 rare and strangely desirable pedal cars are being auctioned outside a small English town later this month, and we can’t help but fall a little bit in love with them.

Many of you will have seen the intriguing no-reserve auction of classic cars from Jaguar Land Rover’s own eclectic collection. That mix of the weird and wonderful isn’t the only thing that’s being sold, though, as JLR also has a collection of pedal cars that it now wants to clear out to make space for other things.

The designs range from old hot-rods with white-wall tyres to tractors and classic single-seat propeller aircraft. They might (and might not) be cheaper than the full-size cars at the Bicester Heritage auction on 21 March, but either way plenty of them are in urgent need of some love.

A little online research suggests auctioneers Brightwells could sell many of them for £100 or less, before you add buyers’ premiums. Others will most likely spark bidding wars, like the small number of old ride-alongs powered by five-horsepower-ish lawnmower engines. The cars are extremely rare, these days.

Bicester Heritage was an air base in World War II, but has recently been in the limelight for its increased involvement in the classic car scene. It has storage facilities for a classic cars, both working and, err, not so working, and is starting to host corporate events for car makers. We even went there to drive some classic Skodas once.

Dan Geoghegan, Bicester Heritage’s managing director, said:

“Pedal cars are a part of our motoring and social history, the no reserve auction represents a potentially once in a lifetime opportunity to snap up some fascinating rarities.

“To host another fantastic auction with our partners at Brightwells will give a further reason for car enthusiasts from around the globe to visit us on sale day, and we look forward to welcoming them and to show all that Bicester Heritage has to offer.”

You can see all the auction lots for the day, both adult-sized and kiddie-sized, right here.

Some of these look awesome and pretty well preserved. I used to have a pedal go-kart back when I was 4 I think, loved that thing.
