Celeb Taxi: DJ Ironik & a Peugeot 208

Team CT takes DJ Ironik for a spin in the new Peugeot 208. He still owes us the taxi fare...

With three UK Top 10 hits under his belt, DJ Ironik also known as "Ironik" is certainly no slouch. He's been rapping his derrière off since 2007 and is a regular on the tour and festival scene. But is he into his cars? We gave Ironik a lift to his mates' house in a brand new, 2012 Peugeot 208 and found out.

Stay tuned for the full Peugeot 208 review coming soon on Car Throttle, but for now, a couple of key facts we picked up from our journey around North London.

Firstly, after attending the launch of the 208 in Manchester, I have to say that I was quite disappointed with the car on our second drive. Not only was the 1.2-litre VTi petrol engine an annoyance without the enthralling exhaust note that the lower-powered 68bhp engine has, but there are great cases of weak design. For starters, drivers of a tall disposition may find it difficult to view the speedometer due to awkward heights of steering wheel and seats. Then there's the existence of tacky plastic on the inside of the car adjacent to the wing mirrors. Je n'aime pas beaucoup.

After getting over the fact that Ironik's first car would be a white Range Rover Sport with white rims, we hastily concluded that the 208 wasn't much of a looker and that it wasn't particularly enthralling to be riding in as a passenger. It's saving grace is that it has an extremely strong lineage of 2-0-somethings, which means thousands will buy in droves, but overall, it left a bit of a French taste in the mouth.

The conclusion? Whilst it's a fairly cheap car likely to be purchased by young guns as a first drivers' car, the people most likely to take out their wallets are the older generation purchasing for their reluctant children or those wanting a French car for themselves. Now isn't that ironic?
