Update: Carlos Sainz Jr Just Smashed Head On Into The Barrier At 150mph

The Toro Rosso was buried deep in the barrier, meaning it took around 15 minutes to extracate Sainz Jr from the car. However, the latest update is that he is conscious and was talking to doctors in the medical centre. The FIA said he even tried to remove his helmet on his own after the crash.

He gave a thumbs up as he was put in the ambulance after being removed from the car. After being looked at in the medical centre he was loaded into a helicopter and taken to hospital.

A tweet from his father, WRC champion Carlos Sainz, says that the Spanish driver is okay and a little while later the man himself posted a picture, confirming he is alright and already trying to convince the doctors to let him race on Sunday!

Toro Rosso then said in a statement that scans revealed he is uninjured, but will remain in hospital overnight as a precaution.

Sainz Jr was released from hospital on Saturday evening and said in a statement released by Toro Rosso that he hopes to race in the Russian Grand Prix, should he pass the FIA’s medical checks.
