Bizarre Truck Spill Pelts Cars With 1kg Steel Balls

After a truck-load of industrial grinding balls broke loose from a truck on a Seattle hill, they pelted cars behind, smashing bumpers, bonnets and even windscreens

Footage has emerged of hundreds of large, steel balls rolling and bouncing a destructive path down a US hillside road.

The rather smashy incident happened when a trucker took a wrong turn and ended up on SW Genessee Street in West Seattle. The heavily-loaded HGV couldn’t make the climb and got stuck, spinning its wheels before reversing and then hitting the brakes too hard, reports local news outlet KIRO 7.

At that point part of the wagon’s load broke free. One-kilo steel balls in huge bags of approximately 2000 balls each burst and released their payload down the street, where they are known to have damaged at least six cars.

Clean-up teams spent hours on the scene tracking down all of the escaped balls. The driver apparently declined an interview with KIRO 7 after being cited by police for failing to properly secure the load. SW Genessee Street resident Matt Sexton said:

“[It] came to a halt and [began] spinning its tyres. And then it decided to reverse out, gained a lot of speed and when he hit the brakes the back end busted open. Thought [the balls] wouldn’t cause that much damage but then saw all the cars stop, starting to reverse.”

Another resident on the street thought the rolling orbs were something a little softer. Joud Inaimi explained:

“At first I thought it was just avocados, at first, but then I looked, and I thought it was so loud. I was worried about, like, all the people on the street.”

This is apparently not the first time a truck has lost its load on the steep street. A furniture truck is said to have previously spilled its contents onto the road at almost the same spot.

I don’t know honestly, if i can’t avoid and have to be hit, the windshield is probably the sturdiest glass of the car

Things you really don’t want to see fall off a truck in front of you: another car, steel beams, and last but not least what’s essentially a truckload of cannonballs…
