Audi RS3 Vs Mercedes A45 AMG: Which Mega Hatch Is Faster?

The guys from Cars.co.za have hosted another drag race with the Mercedes A45, this time pitting it against the warbly turbo five-pot Audi RS3. There's no question the Audi sounds better, but is it faster in a straight line?

Too cheap, they only want hatch backs that are more expensive than actual sports cars.

I believe both the Audi and the Merc have slightly faster 0-100 km/h times. But then again that isn’t the most important part of a hot hatch.

It will probably be behind both A45 and RS3 in a drag race, but will be much faster around a track

In a straight line the focus is nowhere near these two. Down on power and there’s room for driver error (manual). That being said, I’m 99% sure the focus will be a much more fun can to drive, especially compared to the nose heavy rs3.

How are they going to tailgate each other in the same race?

Audi’s 0-100 times are always faster than what the manufacturer says, for example, Audi says that the RS6 will go to 100 km’h in 3.9 sec, while a lot of independent reviewers regularly hit 100 kmh in 3.4 secs and sometimes less!

Audi already revealed facelifted A3 and S3… Although the facelift is mostly cosmetic for these two cars, the RS3 might get the “new” 2.5L 5-cyl aluminium engine like in the TT RS (which has 400hp and 3.7 sec 0-60mph time). So the RS3 will have more power than now (maybe not 400hp, but somewhere between 380 and 400) and will be even lighter. So it is going to destroy other hot hatches with even more ease (at least in a straight line).

RS3 and TTRS are based on the same platform and have been for a while. I’d say this prediction is an accurate reality.

There’s also reliability… these Mercs produce insane boost pressure which breaks their turbos in no time. My friend had one only lasted 2 months.

Did he do any aftermarket work? I’ve always wondered about the reliability on the 45amg engines with turbos running such high boost pressures.

But these cars come with an engine which is tough as nails, basically a TDI engine , 2 months is within warranty so its fine :D haha but i get what you’re saying

Audi has one of the best launch control systems on the market. It does wonders.
