Aston Martin has cemented its ties with the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team; the latest step in a series of manoeuvres that seems to be leading towards Aston entering the pinnacle racing series in 2021.

The British brand will now be Red Bull’s title sponsor, taking over from Infiniti, which, as part of the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi family, will cut ties with the team at the end of this year – a year before Renault itself stops supplying Red Bull with engines.

Most interesting among the planned developments is the establishment of a new Aston Martin Advanced Performance Centre attached to Red Bull’s facility in Milton Keynes. It will create 110 highly-skilled new jobs. In turn, the facility will be the hub from which future projects like the Valkyrie will be engineered.

Red Bull team principle and (by most accounts) thoroughly decent guy, Christian Horner, has confirmed the new deal.

“Our Innovation Partnership with Aston Martin has been a pioneering project from day one. Having conceived and created the remarkably successful Valkyrie together in 2016, we extended our relationship this year and are now delighted to further strengthen the partnership.”

Aston has recently repeated its interest in getting involved with Formula 1, but only if the rules change to lower the costs and level the playing field enough, tipping the scales away from the financial might of Mercedes and Ferrari. We’ll have to wait and see what happens, but Aston Martin joining F1 looks very likely.

Wonder if red bull will be eyeing up Mercedes engines considering they are supplying Aston Martin with engines for the DB11?
