Those of you who are into fast Fords should probably take a seat, because this collection might just get you a little too excited...

Things are pretty exciting at Ford performance right now. In the last year or so we’ve had the launch of the new Focus RS, the debut of the completely bonkers F-150 Raptor, and the unveiling of the new Ford GT. A golden age for the Blue Oval? Perhaps, but we’ve always favoured Ford’s cars from the late 1960s. An era when racing was dangerous, V8 engines were worshiped and the dark art of aerodynamics had yet to be mastered.

So, if you’re like us, and miss the good ol’ days of racing, you’ll want to make your way to RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction this August. There’s an eclectic mix of cars on offer, but the real stars of the show can be found in Jim Click’s fast Ford collection. Click, a successful car dealer, started to race classics in 1991 as a hobby, slowly collating a hand-picked selection of iconic race cars. But now, after 20 years of on-track fun, Click has decided to downsize his collection, starting with his stunning fleet of late ‘60s Fords.

The most sought after car in the group is the 1966 Ford GT40, a car that was originally used for marketing purposes. It spent most of its life travelling around auto shows and Ford dealerships as a display model, before Click purchased the car in 1992. It was quickly turned into a race-spec machine and campaigned under the banner of Jim Click Racing. It’s expected to go for around $4 million.

If that’s a little too expensive for you, don’t fear. Click is also selling a pair of 1964 Shelby 289 Cobras for an estimated $1 million each. Pricey, but the perfect car for events like the Goodwood RAC Trophy.

As well as the pair of 289s, two Mustangs will also be going up for sale, the first being a 1979 model, chassis no. 9F0M148628; a car raced by legends Dan Gurney, Pete Revson, George Follmer and A.J. Foyt. For those into their racing history, the estimate of $1.3 million could almost be considered reasonable…

If you’re on a tighter budget than that, the most affordable car in the collection is the 1966 GT350, raced by Don Roberts for the Southern Pacific Coast Road Racing Championship. Estimates range from $350,000 to $450,000.

Quite a collection I’m sure you’ll agree. If you want to snap up one of these classics, make sure you’re at the auction on the 19-20 of August.
