I appear to have been able to fix my G27 with magic.

Random Blog 001:

Roughly a month ago, my Logitech G27’s optical encoder broke. I saved for a replacement, and promptly bought one. I fitted it as soon as it arrived about a week ago, but I managed to cut a wire in the process - a little red one connecting to the encoder module. It literally just snapped. This broke my heart - I thought everything was in tatters. I’ve only been bothered to try it today.

Attempt 1, failure to finish calibration. Attempt 2, failure to calibrate at all. Attempt 3, SUCCESS! I downloaded the Logitech software immediately and put in some values for FFB, wheel rotation, etc. I thought everything was great, until I pushed the paddle to shift - a sudden judder was sent through the wheel. Wheel buttons, judder. Oh, no. Don’t do this to me now. I frantically pushed every button, sending shock waves through my arms. I thought the solution was to just turn down FFB, but this wouldn’t do - Richard Burns Rally felt lethargic.

I started to follow everything I know from being family I.T - reseating cables, turning things off and on again. Then, I came to (what seems to be) the solution - removing the USB mid-calibration. This - for some reason - fixed it. Now I can finally enjoy Assetto Corsa with a wheel, and even DiRT Rally when I upgrade my PC!

TL;DR: I’m magic.

Also, I’ve ordered some electrical tape as a fix until I can get a soldering iron to properly patch up the wires.
