All New Maseratis Will Be Electrified From 2019

Maserati has committed to making all of its new cars either hybrid or full-electric from 2019, according to a statement by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne
All New Maseratis Will Be Electrified From 2019

All new Maseratis will be part-electric from 2019, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss Sergio Marchionne has said – shortly before announcing his retirement.

Maserati will be used as the pointy end of the conglomerate’s push towards electrification, paving the way for its more mainstream brands – plus Ferrari – to follow. There are big plans on that front, too, with half of FCA cars planned to have some form of electrification by 2022.

The first all-new fully-electric Maserati won’t arrive until 2020, predicts Autocar, based on the Alfieri concept of 2014. Before then, 2019 should see all existing product lines fitted with electric motors in as-yet unconfirmed configurations – although the Levante SUV is understood to be heading for plug-in hybrid status.

Maserati’s range also contains the new-but-not GranTurismo, the Quattroporte and the Ghibli, plus the GranCabrio convertible.

Marchionne, who is 65 and made the announcements on a conference call with investors, will retire at the end of 2019. He was the driving force behind the drawn-out merger of Fiat and Chrysler in 2014, after the former had acquired 53.5% of the latter’s shares in 2011.

suv’s are dumb and stupid. but i don’t have a problem with this at all. we know using electric motors here and there makes a car fast. i simply cannot understand the hate towards hybrid sportscars like this when the mclaren p1, porsche 918 and laferrari get praised so much they almost form a religion.

But in all seriousness, as long as Maserati keep using their beautiful V8, I will be happy.

As long as they keep hybrid we can have a beautiful sounding maser for longer. It’s just a way to avoid the taxes and restrictions of fully IC
