Alfa Romeo Is Building A 600bhp+ New GTV And A 700bhp+ New 8C

We did a little squee when we heard this news - Alfa Romeo is bringing back two of its most evocative badges of recent times

Alfa Romeo is bringing back the famous and evocative GTV name for an all-new hybrid coupe with over 600bhp and all-wheel drive. Sorry, we seem to have drooled all over the floor.

The new GTV Quadrifoglio, announced as part of the Fiat Chrysler Group’s new five-year business plan, will be a halo sports car and a legacy of the Marchionne era. It’ll also be a little bit exciting, to say the least. Seating for four and a 50:50 weight distribution will be defining features, although the concept sketch seems to be a two-door.

This links back strongly to the rumoured Giulia Hybrid we brought to you two months ago, only with sleeker lines and a badge you really, really want to own.

Also on the agenda from the business plan is, excitingly, a new Alfa Romeo 8C. It’ll be very different to the car this writer might argue is the prettiest ever made; the new twin-turbo engine (no cylinder count yet) will be placed amidships driving the rear wheels, and the front axle will be electrified, potentially making this a switchable two- or four-wheel drive hybrid.

It will sprint to 62mph in less than three seconds, push out over 700bhp combined, and be based around a carbonfibre monocoque chassis. Both deeply exciting new prospects will be brought to market in 2022, FCA says. As news days go, this one just got a butt tonne better.

Hat tip to Charlie and Sonia Rizzo!

All this hybridization needs to stop. By all means, hybridize simple grocery getters, but not performance cars. Batteries add weight, and make it less fun around corners.

Yet the lower the battery, the better the center of gravity. That means that, around corners, it can handle well

hybridization is the future. sure, having simple daily’s being hybrids are good, but the inevitability is that there will be an increase amounts of hybrids, even in sports cars. there is no stopping this, and its time to stop complaining about it. its something that will get better with time, so give it some and it will flourish into something that might even surpass the archetypal combustion engine

As well you get the tork instantly so you can push where the gasoline engine is weak and you can easily realise torque vectoring and all wheel drive without cardan shaft. I wouldn’t say electrified vehicles aren’t fun - on straights as well as in corners.

Lmp1-h and f1 , 2 of the fastest cars on earth around corners . Both hybrids . Neither of these alfas will be particularly cheap anyway. The 918 weighs 1700kg and i don’t see anyone complain about it’s handling .

I hate to be that guy, but whay happened to the good old fashioned sports far formula. A lightweight, rwd, na or LIGHTLY turbocharged coupe with a manual trans. Yes this car will be 👌👌 but does it do the GTV name justice?

Just get an alfa 4c…it weights less than a tonne drives only the rear wheels and can be ordered as a manual i think.

The problem is that people have wanted larger and larger cars, so cars have gotten heavier and needed more power. Nowadays a typical sports car is 1600kg which is just plain ridiculous. That kind of weight is only really acceptable in a 2+2 or grand-tourer.
