First car- I've decided to get a Land Rover Discovery 1 as my first car. Is this a good idea?

I’d prefer a Toyota and cruiser for better reliability, but can’t afford to insure it. Is Discovery reliability really that bad?

It’s not that bad from what I hear, yeah they’re no LCs but they don’t brake everyday. And from what I know, it’s small problems that can usually be fixed by 1 person (you) with some DIY knowledge.

Depends what motor amd how its driven. Also you need to remember. This is. Going on on for 20 yo vehicle. so it has points and condensors and a distributor. if you get a petrol. and a mechanical diesel which has ots own issues at this age. but my dad had a v8 auto (3.9) that lasted 560k km. amd my neighbour had a 200tdi (pre facelift) manual with over 490k miles. and both worked perfectly except for when someone did something stupid to them

The only issues I’ve evr had from mine is due to offroading :)
After 20 years of owners all offroading it, the starter solenoid gave up. We opened it up and it was full of mud and rust. Amazing how long it lasted. There’s the total issues I’ve had from my DIsco :)
