A Used Jaguar F-Type Coupe Is The Prettiest Car You Can Buy For Under £40k

The wonders of depreciation mean it's now possible to snag Jaguar's gorgeous F-Type for under £40k

Last week, we welcomed a new addition to the TeamCT long-term test fleet, in the form of a rather gorgeous Ultra Blue Jaguar F-Type S Design Edition. We’re already starting to bond with it, which is a bit of a problem. After all, when it goes back to Jaguar, it’s not like we’ll be able to go out and buy one ourselves: the all-wheel drive example we’re testing weighs in at about £80,000 with options.

Thankfully, since the F-Type has been around for a few years now, you can pick one up on the used market much cheaper. Early V6 coupes have now dropped below £40k, half the price of ‘our’ optioned-up design edition. Still more than us impoverished hacks can afford, but I’d put it to you that there isn’t a prettier car out there for such a sum.

This 2014 example looks particularly dashing with its Polar White finish and 20-inch rims, and is up for £39,999, a few grand more than the starting point for used F-Type coupes. What’s more, it’s only done 10,200 miles. How you can own one of these for three years and only put 10k on the clock, we’re not sure.

Despite the entry-level V6 having ‘only’ 335bhp to the S version’s 375bhp, it’s hardly a slouch, covering 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, and topping out at 161mph. However, it’s probably worth your while adding an extra £5000 - £10,000 to the budget to snare the S, both for the power and the mechanical limited-slip differential.

Think you’ve seen a better looking car out there for under £40,000? Post it in the comments!

I wish…

Here in Norway they’re probably almost as expensive as when they first rolled off the factory floor. (Don’t quote me on that though, but they’re still really expensive)

I always found the XKR to look so much better than the F-Type. It’s considerably slower, heavier and only available with an automatic transmission (which is not too bad, I reckon), but it certainly wins the looks department in my opinion.
This specific one is a 2010 5.0 supercharged with 503 bhp. 77k km (48k mi) on the clock and it’s up for sale for just under 44k € (38k £) in the Netherlands, though it comes with German papers for whatever reason.

IMO after the F-Type was released, I think that relaunching the XK isn’t crucial and I personally think that the F-Type looks and drives better than the XK.

Agree! I drove behind one yesterday for 20miles on some twisty roads, and thought to myself it looks so much better than that new Jag (f-type). Massive ass :)))

I can see what you mean, the bonnet is longer and the tail a bit longer and more Aston Martin-y, with that little lip, but I feel like the F Type has a cleaner, prettier grill, the XKR’s looks a bit strange because the grill looks either like it’s too small, or much too big, as with the XKR-S GT

To be honest there aren’t many cars over 40K that look better than the Jag either
