A Tesla Model S P100D Has Just Run The Standing Quarter In 10.6 Seconds

This is a new best for a car already known for its devastating drag strip performance, with a cheeky drop in tyre pressures part of what made it possible.

We already know the Tesla Model S P100D is fast. We wholeheartedly applaud Elon Musk’s determination to make it the fastest-launching car out there. But one has just posted a 10.6-second quarter-mile… on standard tyres.

In fact, Chris at HorsepowerFreaks achieved the time in a totally standard P100D. Love or loathe electric cars, that’s astonishing. After three passes in the 10.7s, dropping the pressures to 25psi and restoring some charge at a nearby Supercharger station brought the figures down to 10.63 seconds.

A Tesla Model S P100D Has Just Run The Standing Quarter In 10.6 Seconds

The P100D has previously run quarter-mile times in the 10.8s and even the 10.7s, but this is the first recorded 10.6 – and it’s not even a high 10.6. The P100D is the undisputed king of the real-world drag strip.

But i do have to say that this is quite impressive, although lap times dont seem to be a thing with Tesla.

Tesla approaches corners as gingerly as an MX5 approaches a drag strip ;)

Tesla Model 3 + Takumi Fujiwara + ,,Eurobeat,, = 10.6 second Quarter Mile

Electric motors = instant torque and hp

Not entirely accurate.
Performance EVs have normally a motor per wheel - their power output is calculated by adding the power made from all four wheels combined!
Also, electric motors have instant torque - the moment you floor it you get full torque from the engine.
On top of that, because of that instant torque and engine per wheel the imaginary differential (which is actually a computer) can react very quickly and do clever things. (Also why Tesla’s traction control is so strong)

this can hold as much as 7 people and costs 10 times cheaper. I think this is the winner

Is it just me or do we all just not give a crap about Tesla’s 0-60 and drag times?

A concept sports car that costs more then a production sedan is a tad faster? Well, that’s not too surprising.

Thanks for reminding us that the tesla is a “performance” car for the drag strip

The only thing a Tesla can do as fast as a quarter mile is overheat
