As time goes on, we’re growing ever more fond of the Ferrari 599. It sits in something of a sweet spot in Ferrari’s history - the 599 is modern enough to take advantage of Maranello’s technological advancements, but before proceedings took an excessively science-y turn.

Plus, unlike its monstrously powerful successor in the current line-up - the near-800bhp 812 Superfast - the 599 has an output (around 600bhp from its V12) that’s at least semi-useable on the road. Finally, there are all sorts of cool special versions to lust after.

The one you’re looking at here is one of the most exclusive of the lot, although it wasn’t an official Ferrari effort. It’s the clunkily-titled 2010 599 GTZ Zagato Nibbio Spyder, which takes part of its name from the Italian term for the red kite bird of prey.

As with a lot of vehicles from Italian styling house Zagato, the 599 GTB-based beast won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but it certainly is distinctive.

Zagato only made nine, and this is just one of two Spyders. The 599 base car had covered 10,477 kilometres when it was converted by the company, and that’s exactly what the odometer reads out today - the owner didn’t drive it once after the work was finished in 2010. Such is the way with cars like these, there is actually another Nibbio which also sat unused after its conversion.

Want it? It’s going under the hammer at a Silverstone Auctions sale in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia next week. An estimate hasn’t been given, but to give you an idea of how much it might cost, the only manual GTZ of the nine was up for sale not so long ago for $1.5 million.
