A New Ultimate Series McLaren Is Incoming, And It Will Be Even Faster Than The P1

Codenamed P15, the incredible non-hybrid model will use the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and a lightweight ethos to pin down even more speed than the P1
A New Ultimate Series McLaren Is Incoming, And It Will Be Even Faster Than The P1

McLaren is planning a second Ultimate Series model to follow the P1, and the project codenamed P15 is going to be even faster on track.

The car, as claimed by Autocar, will not be a hybrid like the P1, but it will produce even more power from the familiar 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 that features across almost all McLaren cars including the new 570S Spider, the exception being the 720S, which uses an upgraded 4.0-litre development of the same unit.

Project P15 will use the older 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, not the 720S's 4.0-litre upgrade
Project P15 will use the older 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, not the 720S's 4.0…

We’re led to believe that the P15 will have 789bhp to play with but as much as 250kg less weight than the P1, giving the new Ultimate Series monster an even greater power-to-weight ratio and even faster lap times. Only the P1 GTR will be faster on a circuit among McLaren’s other cars, the magazine estimates.

The P15 could even challenge the P1’s standing quarter-mile drag strip time of 10.2 seconds. The 720S from the Super Series, one step below the Ultimate Series, makes it in 10.4 seconds, so the P15 is surely going to have to be tangibly faster.

Some 500 will be built at McLaren's Woking site

The £840,000 hypercar will be shown to customers first, later this year, with production limited to 500 units. Its aim is to be a road legal track beast, with a stripped-out interior but retaining two seats. We don’t have the rights to use Autocar’s renders, so head over there to check out the looks.

If this will be even faster than the P1, I’d like to see how fast the probable GTR variant will be… 😏

Dear Mclaren - Honda,
Before making another super fast quick car for track, please make the F1 cars quicker.

From, Alonso.

Okay everything aside, the new P15 will be just a P1 with stripped electric engines. That’s all.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a single turbo than twins because I think that extra turbo adds weight and takes up space

V8, one turbo per bank needs less tubing

Yeah, but a twin turbo might reduce turbo lag.
