A Maserati MC12 Follow-Up Could Still Happen

While nothing is currently in the works, it's looking like Maserati might still make an all-powerful halo car in the new future
A Maserati MC12 Follow-Up Could Still Happen

Believe it or not, it’s been 11 years since the Maserati MC12 was in production. We’ve seen nothing in the way of a successor since, but that doesn’t mean a new MC12 is completely off the table.

Speaking to Autocar, Maserati boss Harald Wester said that the company “could do a limited edition, but not yet.” So far, so vague, but it does open up the opportunity for some fun and entirely baseless speculation.

Maserati currently manufactures the Alfa Romeo 4C at its Modena factory, and while Alfa’s product plans do indicate a commitment to “specialty” models, it’s not known if Maserati will build whatever replaces the ultra-wide carbonfibre 4C. If it doesn’t, the end of 4C production would open up space at Modena for a limited edition special.

Engine-wise, we’d love to see something V12 shaped from Maserati’s cousins at Ferrari, but failing that, we’d settle for a monstrously boosted version of the Quattroporte’s 3.8-litre twin-turbo. Or the related 3.9-litre monster in the Ferrari 488 GTB. Of course, if a future Maserati supercar followed the blueprint of the MC12 - which was based on the Ferrari Enzo - it’d be some sort of crazed version of the LaFerrari or maybe a road-legal take on the FXX K. But if that happened we’d be incredibly surprised (albeit deliriously happy).

In other Maserati news, Wester also told Autocar that the Gran Turismo coupe will be replaced when it’s 10 years old, which means we can expect a new version next year.

Oh, and “people say we are selling our cars too cheaply,” according to Webster, so it’s now looking like a gradual increase in price over the next few years is on the cards.

When you hear the news about a “new Mc12“ but then you see the „it’s looking like a gradual increase in price over the next few years“ part:
