A Company Has Built The M2 Convertible BMW Doesn't Want To Make

A convertible M2 isn't something BMW intends to make, but for those who want an alfresco version of the baby M car, there is an aftermarket option from Dähler

With the M2 intended to be the driver-focused M car of the line-up, BMW doesn’t intend on hacking its roof off to make a convertible version. It’s something the company has said more than once, and it makes sense: losing a roof means a drop in rigidity, and an increase in weight thanks to all bulky under-body strengthening that’s usually needed.

But if you really, really want a drop-top M2, you can now have one - thanks to a conversion offered by Swiss tuner Dähler. Aftermarket trinkets and overly-spangly wheels aside, it looks like a proper factory effort, no?

We’re not sure how much weight it’s gained compared to the coupe, but thanks to a little under-bonnet fettling, it’s actually quicker. The ‘Stage I’ tune ups the power to 396bhp and the torque to 428lf ft (up from 364bhp and 369lb ft), making 0-62mph possible in four seconds dead. A ‘Stage II’ package is also available, as well as an eight-piston brake upgrade.

Prices haven’t been revealed, but a custom convertible conversion is not something that’s going to come cheap.

Would you have a drop-top M2 over a coupe?

Rims are a bit too big, if they were a little smaller this would be perfect.
