Raspy exhausts - Yay or Nay?

So, I was watching the recent CT video on the Alfa 147 GTA, a car I’ll probably never see with my own eyes in my lifetime, which is completely fine with me, but one thing caught my attention.

That sound. Listening to the video with the volume way up, it was certainly a very distinct sound, yes, but my actual first impression was just how damn harsh it was. Like, the sharpness even made me physically flinch at first, so I turned the volume down a little bit.

My favourite exhaust note by far is the LFA’s Yamaha V10, which, in my opinion has a perfect blend of aggressive and smooth. In contrast, I think the Alfa’s exhaust note is just far too raspy. I’m probably the only one here who doesn’t think the Busso V6 is the best sounding thing ever, but oh well. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it sounds good, but it’s not the very best. Ready for my crucifixion anyways, though.

So, raspy exhaust notes. Yes or no? IMO, too much rasp is a no.

I love raspy exhaust notes. My straight piped Quadrifoglio sounds insane. It’s quite buzzy and VERY VERY raspy in person, but the camera picks up only about 30% of the actual loudness of the rasp. Funny enough, my V10 S6 sounds way too smooth. It needs a custom exhaust to really clear it’s throat. I think there’s no too much rasp.

Rasp or no rasp, a good exhaust note is a good exhaust note. However, I like rasp on a V8, it’s the meanest, manliest engine.
