10 Highlights From Last Weekend’s Motorsport Action

In case you missed any of the action from the weekend, allow us to fill you in on some of the highlights!

The atmosphere must have been very tense in the Team Penske garage after the second IndyCar race in Detroit on Sunday. Will Power and Helio Castroneves collided after the former lost control of his car in tricky conditions. Castroneves had nowhere to go and both were forced to exit the race.

Saturday’s Duel in Detroit was won by Carlos Munoz, while Sunday’s chaotic race saw Sebastien Bourdais take victory.

Because passing one driver at a time is far too mainstream, Sage Karam overtook three rivals on track during the second IndyCar Duel in Detroit. Not bad!

MotoGP was at Mugello for the Italian GP. While chasing down the front-runners, Valentino Rossi managed to save this slide in epic style.

The 2015 MotoGP season continues to excite, with another thrilling race last weekend. The Italian Grand Prix featured some stunning battles, great drives and big crashes. Jorge Lorenzo took a dominant win, with Andrea Iannone and Rossi second and third.

5. Back at Le Mans

The FIA World Endurance Championship reconvened at the iconic Circuit de la Sarthe for the first Le Mans 24 Hours test day. Just look at that grid.

The No. 18 Porsche of Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani was fastest in the first four-hour session, with the No. 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley quickest in second practice.

6. LMP1 GT-R hits the track

Nissan’s unique GT-R LM Nismo FWD LMP1 machine made its public debut at the Le Mans test. We can’t wait to see this thing race!

The first round of the 2015 Red Bull Global Rallycross season took place last weekend in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Ken Block was victorious, as he sums up above in 43 seconds.

A driver’s worst nightmare when spinning out of control is collecting another car. And that’s exactly what happened to Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch during the Nascar Sprint Cup race at the Dover International Speedway.

A pit crew member for Carl Edwards was trying to remove a wedge wrench from the car when it left the pit box, dragging him along with it. He fortunately escaped unhurt.

10. You don’t see that everyday…

If you checked out CT on the weekend, you’ll have seen our report on two terrifying barrel-roll crashes during Saturday’s second FIA Formula 3 European Championship race at Monza. Incredibly, the third and final event on Sunday was red flagged due to poor driving standards.

The race director felt enough was enough after numerous incidents and collisions. He had warned drivers and teams the previous night that any crash due to bad driving would cause the Safety Car to be deployed, and with cars running behind it until reaching 75 per cent (maximum points) distance, that’s exactly what happened.
