Behind the scenes at Car Throttle (Only staff can post in this community)
Hello all,
It’s time to say goodbye to the Car Throttle app. As mentioned in another post, the Android and iOS apps stopped being supported some time ago - they were part of a business direction Car Throttle moved away from, and we no longer had the resources to keep them updated. Due to this, they were removed from the App and Play stores.
We kept access open to the few remaining loyal app users as long as we could, but with an update due to maintain compliance with Facebook’s log-in feature, our hand was forced and we took the decision to deactivate. As of 8am BST on 29 June 2020, you’ll be presented with a maintenance message when trying to load up the app and won’t be able to progress further. Thankfully the solution is simple - head to the conventional mobile site, and you’ll have a bug-free user experience.
I know the app had a hardcore group of fans and we really appreciate your devotion to the app, but it was becoming increasingly buggy and wasn’t compatible with a lot of the embedded features we now use.
We encourage you to ‘Add to Homescreen’ to continue having the CT experience from a single tap.
Thanks for your support.
Matt
Hello all,
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to the Car Throttle community. Following on from the closure of the CT app last year, we’ve taken the tricky decision to cease access to the community part of the website and the post creator as of 3 May 2021.
After that date, we’ll begin archiving existing user-generated content and will bring in a new third-party comment system for our homepage editorial pieces, which we encourage you all to use.
It’s not all bad news, though - we have some exciting stuff in store for our most dedicated users! Exclusive content, awesome competitions and great offers on the horizon via our newsletter, which you can sign up for here.
Thanks for your support.
Matt
Hello all! Since we receive a few comments about app issues every week, I’d just like to clarify once more that the Car Throttle app is no longer supported. We don’t have the resources to provide updates and bug fixes, hence why the app was removed from the Google Play and Apple App Store a few years ago.
If you still have the app on your device it will function, but poorly - for the best user experience, please use the mobile site.
I know the app still has a lot of fans, but as CT founder Adnan explained a while ago, it was part of a business plan we had to move away from.
Thank you for your understanding, and stay safe :)
Dear CTzens,
First, apologies for the lack of regular updates after Jake’s post yesterday. We’ve been behind-the-scenes trying to figure out solutions to the obvious spam issues Car Throttle has seen since Tuesday morning.
Here’s what we know so far:
Blasted spammers have been using the web app and have exploited a vulnerability which has allowed them to quickly create accounts and automatically post links related to ‘HD movies’. We thought it might be an isolated incident so, with the mod team, started to manually ban and remove posts on the spot.
This problem though has been occurring at a far higher rate than we’ve been able to manually manage. Before we’re able to push a fix, we have to set all Topics to ‘Editorial or Staff’ only.
Due to the tens of thousands of posts created, we may have to roll back the Community to a state on Tuesday morning. This means that there is a possibility legitimate user posts may be deleted in the Great Purge.
I advise you all to backup your posts to a Google Doc or Word and repost when we push a fix, hopefully within the next 48 hours. Also, we will have to mass delete all registered users who have recently joined in the last 48 hours. If you are a new CTzen here, I apologise, but you may have to sign back up after we have fixed the issue.
To all those saying we no longer care about the platform… you’re wrong! We’ve just been silently working away and we should’ve been more vocal about what we’re doing to fix. Please bear with us. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, we have a limited number of people in the team and still have to produce regular video content across our other profiles… how good was the last season of 2 Guys 1 Car?!
Speak to you again very soon.
Adnan (Founder & CEO)
