Believe it or not, there used to be a time back in the 20th century that Alfa Romeo used to make great cars. Especially in the 1960s, Alfa Romeo, at its peak, built cars like the Alfa Romeo Spider, one of the most iconic cars in automotive history. But from then on, it slowly went downhill for the Turin-based car manufacturer. But what were the causes of that? And how the 4C and the Giulia could take Alfa Romeo back to those glorious oldern days, I will explain in this article.

To be honest, when I first heard of this car I didn’t like it very much. I found the looks a bit funny and unproportioned, the performance figures were nowhere near exiting and it’s a Fiat, so it will break down probably as soon as you leave the dealership’s car park. Back in 2003, Porsche has blessed us with, most likely, the pinnacle of the automobile: The Porsche Carrera GT. It had over 600 horsepower, stunning visuals and was mid-engined. Quite a recipe then, but while most super- and hypercars of the time and even today have roughly the same characteristics the Carrera GT has always managed to seperate itself from the grey mass of performance cars. What it was, that set the Carrera GT apart and why I, like many others, think that this car, at least from a petrolheads perspective, is one of the best of all time, I am trying to explain today.

So this is it then. The Porsche 911. For me, the pinnacle of passion, sound and driving experience. But because I don’t want to sound like an idiotic fanboy who’s prayings end with “GT3 RS”, I will put some meat on these bones and explain to you why I think that this car is one of the greats, if not the greatest of all time.
