Car Spotting in LA, Part II

IMG_8938

I'm back in North Carolina now, where you can swing a dead cat without hitting a Bentley.  On one hand, it sucks.  I like seeing exotics constantly.  On the other, it's nice that exotics remain exotic. I walked around LA the whole time with my camera around my neck for you guys - so I'll continue now with day two and three of car spotting in LA.  Hope you enjoy it! Classic cars, especially older Japanese cars, seem to have a much longer shelf life in California's relatively mild, dry climate.  This 240Z would have a lot more rust bubbles over here in North Carolina.  I could do without the period window louvers, but YMMV. You could do worse for your commute than driving an

Jaguar Working on XJ Coupe

2010JaguarXJFrontView

Jaguar has met sales success with the new XJ luxury sedan. The car builds off of the brand's earlier efforts with the mid-size XF and finally abandons the retro-styling that was weighing the brand down. Now under the ownership of Tata Group, Jaguar is clearly being taken upmarket. As such new models must be introduced. A new sportscar is almost certainly in the works and a crossover is being considered. But what about an XJC coupe version of the XJ? Renderings of such a car have floated around before, and the result looks brilliant. The car's beautiful styling would be applied to a two-door coupe with a very rakish roofline. The move makes sense from a business perspective, adding a halo model that would increase profits and

Jaguar Announces XJ Sentinel

The new Jaguar XJ has been garnering critical acclaim, and we believe it is merited. The sedan launches Jaguar back into contention in the full-size luxury segment after being a side player for quite some time. It is one of the most advanced in the world, and has modern looks to back it up, eschewing the retro-look of the previous car. It has been a similar revolution akin to the XF in the mid-size segment. Perhaps as an example of its success and the demand for such a product, Jaguar has announced production of an armored version, dubbed the XJ Sentinel. This comes on the heels of the special XJ75 Platinum Concept at Pebble Beach. Car of choice for British government members? Maybe so, especially after this.

Pebble Beach: Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept

This year, Jaguar is celebrating 75 years in business. It is something the brand has been celebrating all year. Why not milk it, right? They are doing that, introducing the XJ75 Platinum Concept at Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance. Let's take a look. One interesting thing about Pebble Beach is that the show has been increasingly used by luxury and sportscar manufacturers to debut their wares. The XJ75 Platinum Concept does just that, giving Jaguar a presence at the show. The car is designed to show off the XJ's proportions, and curiously, provide inspiration to the "customization" opportunities for the car. Could this indicate a Jaguar personalization program? Who knows, but it seems like a no brainer to us. The XJ75 is finished in a black and white paint

Jaguar To Produce Sportscar, Cancel XJ Coupe?

2009 was a pretty good year to Jaguar, with the XK and XF selling well and the new flagship XJ introduced, set to go on sale this year. Forward momentum must be sustained though, so what is next? Jaguar and Land Rover have been doing quite well for themselves lately in terms of a new introductions. The new Jaguar XF mid-size sedan has been a hit product, the range-topping (and high profit margin) XJ is coming, and at Land Rover sales of the Range Rover have held up better than expected. It appears that those combined factors are helping the Jaguar and Land Rover to move from red to black. In the world of business as well as fashion, black is always in. In that that time, sales for Jaguar Land Rover increased by about 23%, for a total of 44,300 vehicles compared to

Neiman Marcus Jaguar XJ Sells Out

The Jaguar XJ debuted in July at an exclusive event that Jaguar held in London. Since then it made the requisite appearances at auto shows ahead of it's on-sale date of early next year. Recently, Neiman Marcus made an announcement about the selection of the car to make an appearance in the exclusive retailer's annual Neiman Marcus Christmas Book. Want one? It's too late. Only 50 special edition models were made available. Demand for the XJ seems to be high - the car sold out in only four hours and four minutes since being made available for order by phone on Friday, October 16th.  I'd say that was a pretty quick sell out of a $105,000 car, especially with the current state of the economy. It certainly

More Details on Jaguar’s XE

Jaguar is on a product renaissance as of late! The XK and XF have  been hit products and it looks like the recently-introduced XJ flagship is following in those footsteps as well. We've never quite seen a Jaguar lineup like this! Hopefully, it will be enough to bring the brand to profitability. If this all-star lineup of cars can't, nothing can. Even under Ford's ownership, it is has been long rumored that Jaguar was planning an XE roadster to compete against Porsche's highly successful Boxster. Nothing ever came of it as it was delayed over and over again. Now Jaguar is being managed right and it looks like it finally could make it's way to production. Ratan Tata, head of Tata Motors (the company that owns
