2011 Subaru WRX Beefs Up!

There are a lot of nice things to say about the current WRX sedan. It's way more comfortable than the old ones, it feels less like a McDonalds toy inside, that 2.5L turbo flat four is epic, and it still is one of the quickest ways to get from Point A to B when there are curves and nasty stuff in between.  What you couldn't say, though, was that it looked good.  In fact, it sort of looked like a fat Corolla with a hood-scoop. Well, no more!  Today, images of the 2011 WRX leaked out ahead of it's debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show, and the improvement is drastic.  The main visual difference are the STI-style flared fenders, which increase the track width

New Subaru Impreza R205

Good news (if you live in Japan): Subaru has exposed its successor to the Impreza S203 and S204 special performance versions. It's called the S205, it features a lot of new goodies and benefits from chassis, engine and styling upgrades. OK, so it's home market only, but we can dream, can't we? There's the WRX, then there's the WRX STI, and then there's this thing: the R205. It's called the top performance model of the entire WRX STI lineup, and Subaru says that the R205 (the "R" stands for "Road Sport") will make full use of expressly designed features and performance parts from the "WRX STI spec C" model. Chassis-wise, the R205 makes use of STI tuned dampers, coil springs, a flexible type strut tower bar

Subaru Introduces Not-So-Special-Edition STI for US Market

Subaru enthusiasts in the US market have been getting the short end of the stick for the better part of 2 decades. The WRX debuted in Japan in 1992, and as the Impreza GT in Europe in the same year.  Despite the generally undeniable American propensity towards things that go fast, it would be another 9 years (2001) before we even got a taste of WRX on these shores.  And while we've continued to get WRX's (look at that, Subaru, Americans DO want cars that can go fast and do corners!) and hot-rod STi's, we've sorta been left out on the whole special-edition thing. I mean Europe's gotten the RB5, 22b STi, Prodrive P1, RB320, S203... you get the picture.  But as for the US market, the

Tokyo 2009: Subaru WRX STI Carbon

The Subaru WRX in it’s last generation was a pretty universally loved car, with unforgettable round headlights and excellent performance for the money. It seems as if the car has lost a bit of it's mojo and character since those days, but performance has only continued to get better. At Tokyo 2009, along with a new concept, Subaru has saw fit to introduce a new package for the WRX STI lineup, dubbed the Carbon. At first you might think it has something to with the environment, but no - carbon in the name WRX STI Carbon is for carbon fiber, not the type of C02 emissions from cars that everyone is convinced is killing the planet. And if you know about carbon fiber, you’ll know it is

Subaru Introduces Hardcore STi Spec C for Japan

There are a few things in this world you can truly count on. Death, taxes, partisan politics in the US, and special-edition Subarus come to mind.  There have been a whole slew of special Subarus over the years, from the early STi's to the P1's and RB5's and the 22b, up through modern ones like the STi Type RA Spec C, S202b and many others.  Subaru's come out with their latest and greatest special edition Impreza for the Japanese market, and it's called the WRX STi Spec C.  It's a more focused version of the regular Japanese 2.0L STI hatchback, and only 900 are going to be produced. Under the hood, the 2.0L 16v boxer four has been treated to a redesigned twin-scroll ball bearing center

One topic that automotive enthusiasts can never seem to agree on is: what is the best-sounding car?
