Car Spotting in LA, Part II

IMG_8938

I'm back in North Carolina now, where you can swing a dead cat without hitting a Bentley.  On one hand, it sucks.  I like seeing exotics constantly.  On the other, it's nice that exotics remain exotic. I walked around LA the whole time with my camera around my neck for you guys - so I'll continue now with day two and three of car spotting in LA.  Hope you enjoy it! Classic cars, especially older Japanese cars, seem to have a much longer shelf life in California's relatively mild, dry climate.  This 240Z would have a lot more rust bubbles over here in North Carolina.  I could do without the period window louvers, but YMMV. You could do worse for your commute than driving an

Supercars: Not Just For Hard Parking*

SLRburnout

Hard-parking - Noun.  When one owns a high-performance vehicle which he only drives to and from the garage to the car show. Used in a sentence: "Stop hard parking your car, take it out to the tracks." Hard parking is that guy you know with the sweet M3 with the sweet BBS wheels and the sweet carbon-fibre everything and the sweet AP Racing big brake kit and Tein coilovers and carbon-bucket Recaros and oh my god it's a Grouppe M carbon intake, and all he does it park it up, sparkling clean with the hood up at Euro-snob car shows.  Boo on you, pansies.  Fast cars are meant to be driven heard.  Allow me to explain.

Mercedes-Benz Building Last SLR McLarens

As is often said, all good things (depending on if you think this was a good thing) must come to an end. McLaren is setting its sights on Ferrari and Lamborghini, aiming to develop a full roadcar division that begins with the MP4-12C.Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, is setting out on its own as well, developing the SLS AMG supercar inhouse. Five variants of the SLR family were produced – two coupes, two roadsters and the last model. the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. Interesting fact: SLR stand for "sporty", "light" and "raceworthy" according to Mercedes. Never knew that! Today Mercedes issued a press release proclaiming the "end of a great era." The last of the Stirling Moss models are being built right now. Each person who buys a SLR

More Pics Released on SLR McLaren Stirling Moss

What a nice sendoff to Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren line! The company has released new pictures and information on what it calls the "crowning glory" of the SLR range. Let's take a look!  In creating the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss (wow, that one's a mouthful), it's clear they created something truly special and unique. This is for all intents and purposes, a show car, destined for collector status and permanent garaging. Only 75 are to be built, made available to existing SLR customers only.  SLR McLaren production ends in May 2009, with Stirling Moss production commencing afterwards between June and December 2009. Like Bugatti in my recent article, with the McLaren-Mercedes run of cars ending, McLaren will have none of their vehicles on the market to sell. This model extends things out a bit while also

Frankfurt 2009: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing Spy Shots Emerge

More detailed spy photos of the long-rumored Mercedes Gullwing sportscar have broken cover, courtesy of admirably nutty Brit car site PistonHeads.  This replacement for the soon-departed Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren will feature "gullwing" doors in honor of the famous 1950's 300SL Gullwing race car, with retrofuturistic styling to match.  Underneath, though, the SLS AMG will be a fully modern performance vehicle. The press release cleverly disguised as spy photos tell us a bit about what to expect from the SLS.  The chassis is an all-aluminum space frame, for exceptional rigidity and reduced weight.  Power will come from a front-mounted aluminum V8 sitting mostly behind the front axle.  Based on the bespoke AMG 6.2L 32v V8 that sees duty in everything from the C-Class to the SL,
