So You Can’t Afford The R8? Check Out The Audi TT RS Plus

Audi-TT-RS-plus_1

One of the highlights of the Geneva Motor Show next month is the fastest Audi TT yet. The new TT RS Plus is exactly what it says on the boot lid: a TT RS plus more power, more torque and more speed. The original TT RS comes with a 2.5-litre, 5 cylinder direct injection petrol with 335bhp and 332 lb ft of torque which gives it a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds, the same as the standard R8, and a limited top speed of 155mph. That isn't enough for some people, though, so the Plus gets a revised inlet manifold and increased turbocharger boost to deliver 355bhp and 343lb ft of torque meaning the 0-62mph is down to 4.1 seconds with the S-tronic gearbox. That's just

A Mix of Classical Music and Horsepower

Synfonica2

Form67.net makes some of the coolest videos on YouTube.  They mix art and automobiles better than most of the pretentious fish-eye-lens-and-Supra crowd out there.  Their videos are always worth a few minutes of your time. This new one, "Mechanical Synfonica" is pretty awesome as well.  It combines beautiful women, an Audi RS5 and an E92 M3 battling on a mountain road, and a Symphony.  If nothing else, it'll make you smile for five minutes (and four seconds.)  Check it out:

Not a huge fan of a Rieger body kit on an M3, but the scene where the M3 and the RS5 both pull out of the gravel with wheels spinning more than makes up for it in my eyes.  And the contrast of

Top 5 Superkids & Supergrannies In Supercars

11-year-old-audi-r8

Some amazing footage has been seen on the famous video uploading website since it went live in 2005. YouTube contains a vast library of clips ranging from front-line breaking news videos such as natural disasters or serious crime to the most ridiculous content such as a drunk guy being catapulted over a pool by a homemade human slingshot or a cat singing. There are loads of car videos up there too, including those from Car Throttle's YouTube Channel. You could watch someone set a lap time around the Nurburgring or you could watch an 'up close and personal' tour of luxury motors and supercars. Here are 5 YouTube videos I came across that show it is possible for anyone to drive a high performance car nowadays whether they are 5

AudiR8V8LimitedEditionFrontView

Audi has been highly successful at the 24 Hours of LeMans race, winning ten victories. The first race won by Audi was in 2000, with the winning vehicle being a R8 sports prototype. To celebrate its racing success, Audi is announcing the R8 Limited Edition. Just 100 units will be produced. Interestingly enough, the car is powered by the same 4.2-liter V-8 as the standard car. Making 430 horsepower, it doesn't receive any tweaks. The biggest differentiation with this car comes on the exterior. The R8 Special Edition is finished with an exclusive special titanium-effect paint exclusive. Also new is 19-inch titanium finish "5-arm double-spoke Y design" alloy wheels that inspired by the top-shelf R8 GT. Red brake calipers round off the package. Inside

CarThrottle Asks: Best “Entry Level” Supercar?

458gallardo

Ahahaha, oh my. An "entry level" supercar - right, that makes sense.  It used to be there were sports cars that normal people could afford (Mustang, Corvette, Porsche 944, etc), and Supercars that only oil barons and filthy rich Enron executives could afford (F512M, Countach, Cizeta Moroder, EB110.)  As the industry moves along, though, we've actually developed upper and lower echelons of the supercar.  It's funny to think of something costing nearly a quarter-million dollars as being "entry level," but despite all the insanity of the Ferrari 458 Italia, it's not the craziest thing they make. There didn't used to be a lot of choice here, either - you could pretty much get an F355 or an Esprit, and a few others have crept in here

Audi Sketches R8 GT Spyder

AudiR8GTSpyderSketchFrontView

Audi hasn't let up on its drive to push further upmarket with its performance cars. The R8 mid-engined sportscar arrived as a halo model for Audi. Since its arrival, it has been continually enhanced and new models have come along such as the V-10 FSI as well as the Spyder. The R8 GT ups the ante further with a 560-horsepower 510, which is up 25 ponies on the "standard" V-10. The power increase is coupled with reduced weight to the tune of 220 pounds. The changes are good for a 0-60 dash of just 3.6 seconds, 0.3 faster than the R8 V-10. Pricing checks in at just under the $200,000 mark, at $198,000. The car is limited to just 333 units globally, with 1/3

Audi R8 GT Gets Priced Near $200K

The deluge of Audi performance variants continues! Enthusiasts are the ones benefitting as new model after model arrives. We aren't ones to complain. The R8 is one of the upper end models in Audi's stable, likely out of our reach - at least for quite sometime. It has been expanded beyond the original V-8 coupe model to include a V-10 Spyder variant. Recently, the V-8 was made available in Spyder variation as well. The hottest model of them all though is the R8 GT, and it just has gotten a price tag. $198,000 - yes, that's almost $200,000, for an Audi. It is an Audi that competes in exotic territory though. It gets the aforementioned V-10 engine, but adds horsepower - up to 560 horsepower from the

Audi Prices A8 Sedan and R8 Roadster V-8

Audi is pressing forward with new models at both ends of the spectrum - from the A1 minicar to A8 sedan. In performance, the R8 continues to set the standard for the brand. The new Audi A8 was revealed last year and is going on sale currently, with the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class firmly in its sights. Befitting of those aspirations, it gets a hefty price tag to match. Audi waited until the last minute to reveal the A8's pricing information. The standard length car is going on sale right now, and it starts at $78,050 (excluding $875 destination and dealer charges). Next month the long-wheelbase A8-L (pictured) hits showrooms, and it checks in at $84,000. Next up is the R8 Spyder. Last year, Audi released the Spyder

YES: Audi RS5 Coming to the United States, Audi Prices R8 Spyder

The fact that Audi is on a roll is undisputed. The brand has become one of the leading contenders in the luxury segment in a small space of time. Sales have increased to match - it was just announced that the 2-millionth Audi has been sold in the United States. It took 40 years to achieve that goal, and we can only imagine the amount Audi will be hitting in the next 40 years. That success has all comes down to product - vehicles like the A5 in particular for enthusiasts. Now, things are about to get a whole lot more interesting as the RS5 has officially been confirmed as coming to the U.S. This is extremely exciting news. Here in America, we currently get the S5

Audi R8 GT Packs More Power, Less Weight

The Audi R8 5.2 FSI is already one of the most desirable cars on earth. I mean, come on - it's a combination of Lamborghini craziness with Audi civility and beautiful design.  It makes a sound like God playing a trumpet, accelerates like it's just been rear-ended by a runaway dump truck, and will make beautiful four-wheel powerslides with one hand on the wheel.  The interior is immaculate, it's got an external-gated 6 speed, and... well, I could go on for days.  It took up where the NSX left off; offering supercar performance with everyday civility in a perfectly engineered package. And now Audi has seen fit to add a little spice to the recipe, and it looks like it's about to get a little more
