Car Throttle News Bites: January 4th 2012

LFLC

The year 2012 is now upon us, which may mean a few things.  One is that we've only got 350-odd days before the Mayan's prediction of the apocalypse comes true and we all die.  (I'm not betting on it!)  The other thing it does mean is the Detroit Auto Show is just around the corner- just a few days, in fact.  So I've awoken from my Christmas/New Years slumber to share the news. This little trucklet is the new Ford EcoSport, debuting at the New Delhi Auto Expo.  Based on the Fiesta, this miniature soft-roader is the second generation of the EcoSport, which was previously only sold in Brazil.  This new one should be more widely available, with production in Brazil and India, as part of

I Figured Out The Morgan 3-Wheeler’s Purpose: Burnouts.

morgan

British auto maker Morgan is bringing back their iconic three-wheeled sports car after an absence of 60 years. Before Morgan started putting an even number of wheels on their cars, they sold a 3-wheeled sports car (2 in front, 1 in back) powered by motorcycle V-twins, and later by Ford 4-cylinder engines.  The point, I think was to take advantage of tax breaks for motorcycles - since the 3 wheeler didn't have to be registered as a car. They went on to make plenty of great four-wheeled sports cars - the Plus 8 comes to mind - but in 2012, the Morgan Three Wheeler will return, including it's first officially imported debut in the US.  It will be powered by a Harley-Davidson-based S&S V-Twin,

eBay “Other Makes,” Part II

Sterling827

eBay "Other Makes" is like the deep end of the pool when you're 6.  You're free to go there, but you might sink in. There's so much cool stuff in this dark corner of eBay it's hard to pick just a few favorites.  Want some more?  You've come to the right place! You know what's really boring?  Driving just on land.  What you need is a car that can drive directly from the boat dock into the lake.  Might wanna get in on the auction for this 1965 Amphicar if that fits the bill for you.  The seller says it's in working condition, but the pile of junk on it would indicate it's more of a Ran When Parked. Not trying to be a

A Modern Morgan: EvaGT Revealed

Morgan Motor Cars is one of the small, independent manufacturers out there that keeps on chugging along. It has done quite well for itself sticking to a pretty similar formula - its cars have looked similar for years. That changed to a certain degree with the Aer0 8, sold here in the United States. Now, Morgan is branching out even further with the EvaGT. Does the EvaGt Look like any Morgan you have ever seen? No, it didn't to us either. Signifying a big change in approach, Morgan also debuted the vehicle on U.S shores, unusual for the British automaker. Morgan and fuel efficiency may have not always been conjured up in the same sentence - the company's designs aren't exactly aerodynamic. The EvaGT changes all that, and

Morgan Aero SuperSports Drops Its Top

It's amazing in this economy that tiny niche sports car makers can stay afloat, much less prosper.  Chalk Morgan's success up to a fanatically loyal fanbase, I suppose.  The ultra-traditional (that's my polite way of saying "anachronistic") brand not only continues to exist, but they continue to put out new models for Morgan fanatics to drool over.  Being something of a Morgan fanboy myself, this car really does it for me - pseudo-wood chassis and all. Called the Morgan Aero SuperSports, it's an open-top version of last year's Morgan AeroMax Coupe, which was a dramatic restyling of the new-ish Morgan Aero 8.  It has two removable roof panels which can be stowed in the trunk when removed.  So in other words, finally!  A Morgan with T-Tops! The

Coachbuilders To Debut New Models

If you like Italian design and/or coachbuilding, this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy will be a real treat. The event, very similar to our own Concours de Elegance, kicks of on April 24th and 3 coachbuilders (2 Italian) are said to be debuting new vehicles. Bertone,  Zagato and British sports-car manufacturer Morgan are the companies. Legendary designer Stile Bertone's rumored debut is a highly anticipated V8-powered 2-seater in the vein of 2008's B.A.T 11. Speculation is that Zagato will be debuting the finalized production version of the Perana Z-One (pictured). I wonder what changes the car will get on it's way to production. If true, it will be the only production vehicle debuting at the show (which will also have displays from many other companies). Morgan's
