Beijing 2010: Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Break Concept

We know what you're thinking about the headline - we thought it too. Shooting break? Everyone knows it's spelt shooting brake - well, actually not, according Mercedes. The original way of spelling it is break, and its origin comes from back to the horse-drawn carriage days, being the name given to carriages used to "break" in wild horses and also to restrict (or "brake") their urge to move, so that they could be put to use as work horses. You learn something new every day! Beyond that, we dare them to use a cool name like this for production instead of a a boring name like wagon. Anyway, enough about the name, let's check the thing out. There is no doubt one of the most iconic and important introductions of the last decade

VIDEO: Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Sliding in the Rain

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of the E-Class is not sliding around in the rain. Then again, thats because most E-Classes aren't of the E63 AMG variety. $85,750 worth of awesomeness - giving new meaning to super sedan. Are we fans? Not at all. Sarcasm alert. The E63 AMG is motivated by a naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter, 518-horsepower V-8 generating 465 pound feet of torque making peak horsepower at 6,800 rpm and peak torque at 5,200 rpm. Thats good for a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a quarter-mile in 12.7 seconds. All from a sedan that can still carry four other passengers, groceries in the trunk and not beat everyone up while doing it. While that is mostly what owners of the E63 AMG

Not So Fast, Audi: BMW Still on Top for Q1 Sales

It was a big deal in the automotive world when Audi overtook Mercedes-Benz in sales for Q1, hitting a new record for the brand and upsetting the long-standing pecking order of global luxury sales. At the time, BMW had yet to release its sales. Today they did, and they remain on top for Q1. But not by much! Their numbers are on the upswing however, to the tune of 14 percent from 2009's levels, fueled by the new X1 crossover and sales of the (highly profitable) 7-Series lineup. Here is how the final numbers work out: 248,500 for Mercedes-Benz at third place, 264,100 for Audi at second place and 265,809 for BMW at first. Just 1,709 vehicles separates first and second- a tentative lead for BMW, to

Lexus Wins 2009 Sales Race

The economic issues of the past few years have hurt a lot of luxury brands hard. One that got hit particularly hard has been Lexus. Sales of the brand have fallen sharply at times. So much in fact, that many said this would be the last year of Lexus' dominance in the U.S luxury car market. Remember all of the news stories proclaiming BMW would overtake Lexus in the sales race this year? Well, those were a bit too premature. Lexus managed to pull it out due to a weakening by BMW at the end of the year. Lexus is the top luxury car brand in the United States for 2009, its 10th consecutive year, with a total of 215,975 vehicles sold. The closest rival was BMW, who

Magna To Produce SLS AMG

Magna International is a Canadian parts supplier for many car companies around the world. As you may know, the recent GM financial crisis prompted the sale of Opel. After a long and arduous bidding process Magna International emerged as the victor. The fact that the company also gets contracts to produce vehicles for other manufacturers has many potential clients worried there is now a conflict of interest. Trade secrets could be compromised as they are being shared with a competing manufacturer, or so the thinking goes. It was a cause for concern at Magna that people would steer clear of critical services that it offers. Apparently, Mercedes-Benz isn't concerned about any of that. Magna's Austrian Steyr subsidiary has received the contract to build the body of the
