Mid-Size Maserati Sedan Coming in 2014

April was a big month for Chrysler-Fiat, as the company had a big press briefing where it introduced five-year strategic business plans for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Fiat and Maserati. The plan for Maserati created quite a stir, as it showed the brand expanding to become a bit more mainstream. The centerpiece of that plan was a new smaller sedan to slot in below the Quattroporte. The car would be aimed at the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Jaguar XF, with a pricetag of under $74,000. At the time of the plan's introduction, we speculated that the new model would most likely be competing against the sport variants of each of those cars, the S6, M5 and XFR. We still believe this. Now, a new report from Motor Trend

Maserati Announces Plans to Compete With – the BMW 5-Series?

A lot is going on in the Chrysler-Fiat world today, as the company is announcing strategic 5-year plans for its United States brands. That includes Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Maserati and Fiat. One of the most interesting announcements has come from Maserati though, which has signaled its intention to compete with the BMW 5-Series. Maserati, of course, is best known for its supercars. However, over the years the company has produced vehicles up and down the spectrum. Maserati Biturbo, anyone? In addition, while other exotic manufacturers are just now entering the four-door segment, Maserati has been there all along with the Quattroporte. Now, they look to be taking that formula into a lower market segment - against the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, and Jaguar XF. We would imagine the

New Aston Martin Rapide Images Leak Out

For some reason, the wait on this car has felt like forever! I've been talking all about it, but it never actually gets here. What can I say that I haven't already said? Yes, Aston Martin I still think you produce some of the most beautiful vehicles in the world and yes the Rapide is already one of my favorites. In all seriousness though, the Rapide is a new entry from Aston Martin in an unusual segment for a supercar manufacturer. Maserati was one of the first to produce a 4-door sedan, with it's pioneering Quattroporte. Aston Martin also produced the Lagonda sedan but other than that, a 4-door has never been a part of the company's lineup. It appears this could be a new battleground for the

Supercar Sightings: Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder and Maseratis Gallore

I'd like to introduce a new column here at Car Throttle which shall be named Supercar Sightings. In this editorial, I will be taking a look at various supercars I come across on my daily excursions around where I live in Surrey, UK. In the past few days, I've come into contact with a number of high-powered and visually attractive motors. This is probably of no coincidence as I spent a big of time today at a local Ferrari Garage and yesterday was perusing through cars at a Mercedes-Benz dealership. With regards to the latter, it came as a bit of a fluke that one of the customers happened to be pimping a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder (2006 model). This particular driver was smart enough to ditch the

Spyker 4-Door Sedan?

Lots of news is rolling out from my favorite niche car manufacturer Spyker Cars.  Apparently the recent spate of announcements has a lot to do with an infusion of Russian funding into the company. The investor apparently liked the D8 Peking To Paris and that's why the production is moving forward with it. Now Spyker CEO is shedding some light on the D8 as well as a new Quattroporte-rivaling 4-door sedan. I think this is really neat to hear, and an important step in Spyker becoming a more established and a bit larger volume luxury brand like it aspires to be. Sales last year were up and they look to be up this year as well with the new C8 Aileron on the way as well as
