After a long run spanning from 2001 to 2011, the Murcielago ended production last month. The 4,099th car was a Murceliago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce sold to a Swiss customer. The Murcielago's departure leaves Lamborghini with just one model, the Gallardo. Unusually, the car was phased out before a replacement was introduced. But we shouldn't have to wait too long before seeing it as the successor is reportedly coming to next year's Geneva Auto Show in March. While first rumored to be named "Jota", reports have instead pointed to the a successor called Aventador. Details about the car's 6.5-liter V-12 powerplant were released by Lamborghini last month. The new engine will make 700 horsepower and 508 pound feet of torque, while weighing just 518 pounds. Expect the

Video: Lamborghini Jota Around the Track

Lamborghini aimed to build anticipation with an endless supply of teasers leading up to the Paris Auto Show. Many speculated it was the rumored "Jota" replacement for the Murcielago. That didn't quite work out as it was instead a concept model, the Sesto Elemento. In addition, it was more of a next-generation Gallardo preview than anything. That doesn't mean that the Murcielago replacement isn't coming though. Leftlanenews has caught the new supercar racing around the Nurburgring. It is slated for a launch next march at the Geneva Auto Show. Until then, check out the video below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0T1cgQ8D9k

Paris 2010: Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

It isn't every day that a new supercar is unveiled. The nature of the low-volume exotic business and high cost of development requires longer life cycles. That's why a new Lamborghini is a big deal. The company has been slowly teasing the new car to us for a while, and it today we get to see the whole thing. The Sesto Elemento debuts a new approach for Lamborghini, and it begins with the name. Sesto Elemento is the Italian name for the sixth element in the periodic table - carbon fiber. That is fitting then, because nearly every element of the entire vehicle is made from that material. It all comes as part of the company's new focus on lightness. Lightness brings a different approach - more on 0-60

Lamborghini Posts $47.6 Million Loss, Sales Decline

Conventional thinking is that in times of economic turbulence, companies of non-essential high-end products like Lamborghini would suffer greatly. For the year of 2008 at least, Lamborghini bucked that, posting both a sales and profit increase. Problems accelerated significantly in 2009 though, and reality set in for everyone - including Lamborghini. Lets take a look at the damage. Sales declined by some 37.7 percent, to 1,515 cars. That is after a 2.5% increase for 2008 that resulted in 2430 cars sold, Lamborghini's highest figure ever. A 37.7 percent decline was enough to turn a $79.6 million profit to a $47.6 million pretax loss. Ouch! Lamborghini blames the sales decline on two things: finance industries fell hard last year and many of Lamborghini's customers were in that sector and

Lamborghini Announces The 4,000th Murcielago Is Produced

Lamborghini is the famed Italian company born out of Ferrucio Lamborghini's desire to produce a better competitor to Ferrari. Through the years it has been a staple of the automotive scene. Hitting hard times and declaring bankruptcy in the 1970's, it has been through Swiss, Indonesian, American (Chrysler) and finally German (Audi/Volkswagen Group) ownership. Under Audi's stewardship, Lamborghini has prospered. As an example of this, the 4,000th Murcielago was just built at Lamborghini's factory in Sant'Agata Bolognese. In contrast, in eleven years of production the predecessor to the Murcielago, the Diabo, only managed 2,900 units. The 4,000th example is an LP670-4 SV with Arancione Atlas (orange) paint. Showing a changing world, the car is being delivered to the Lamborghini dealer in Hangzhou, China where it will meet its

Lamborghini LP 570-4 SuperVeloce Images Appear

We know that the March is a way off (the North American International Auto Show hasn't even started yet) but who would turn down the chance to see a new Lamborghini early? We thought so. Rumors of a SuperVeloce based on the Gallardo have been swirling, and new images leaked on the web seemingly add a bit more credibility to those. The last special Gallardo model was the Superleggera (meaning super light in Italian) a model that lost pounds and added a bit of horsepower. The SuperVeloce would take things even further, it's 570 designation indicating a rise in output from the car's V-10 to 570 horsepower. Leaked is three new images, and you can spot the "SV" designation on the side. It isn't certain whether these are official renderings

Lamborghini Developing Murcielago Replacement

While the juggernaut that is Ferrari (see Ferrari World, F1 racing) has a pretty large model range, Lamborghini has been content to continue on with just two models: the Gallardo at the low end and the Murcielago at the high end. There has been talk of a third Estoque four-door model line addition, but we aren't sure when that will arrive (if ever). Like Bugatti, Lamborghini has released a lot of different special edition runs of both models, but particularly the Murcielago. The Reventon has been an extremely expensive, reworked model limited to only 20 units, but it still isn't a huge departure from the Murcielago. If a new report by CarsUK is to be believed, a new model is in the works at
