Hurst and Pontiac have a long history over the years together, producing high-performance Pontiacs for the consumption of performance enthusiasts. The company was particularly big in the 1960's, heyday of the muscle car, modifying vehicles for AMC, Chrysler (Plymouth), Ford, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. It's fitting then that they would be producing two new models for Pontiac now. The models getting the Hurst treatment are the G8 and G6. The G6 seems like an odd one but the G8 is perfect for it, with it's excellent RWD performance. Limited edition? The 1970 was the beginning of the end as far as Detroit based Muscle Cars. With the ever increasing Insurance Rates for "Big Block" Muscle, and the pending government regulations regarding emissions, bumper, and roll over standards, the car companies were spending millions trying to comply, while still trying to sell "performance". Horsepower ratings were being adjusted to take advantage of unleaded gasoline, the first electronic engine management computers were just coming on line, and the era of fire breathing muscle was coming to a close.
