U.S Consortium Now In Lead for Volvo

Sweden's two brands are currently in the process of an attempted sale, with Spyker the latest bidder to join the fray for Saab. Recently, a report came out in Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri reporting that U.S investment consortium was preparing to put in a new bid for Volvo. Prior to that, it was announced that Chinese automaker Geely was Ford's "preferred bidder" for Volvo. That usually means an advanced level of talks has been reached, but technically is meaningless. The U.S auto manufacturers have been attempting to rid their "non-core" assets over the past few years. General Motors is entering the last stages of a Saab sale, nearing approval on Hummer and has attempted to sell Opel. Ford has gotten rid of Jaguar and Land Rover, while Chrysler failed in its attempt to find a buyer for the Viper "brand". Ford Confirms Geely as Preferred Volvo Bidder

The European brands owned by American companies have been in a lot of turmoil lately, along with the whole industry. General Motors is nearing completion of the sale of its Saab subsidiary to Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg. Ford has already sold off luxury brands Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover. The future of Opel is still up in the air along with Ford's ongoing efforts to sell Volvo.
