Review: 2011 Infiniti G37 – Making Its Mark as a Drivers Car

Turning points for manufacturers in a segment can often start with one product. A star model; for Infiniti, that was no doubt the original G35 that launched in 2003. For a brand that never really got traction during the 1990s, the G35 represented a big change, being a rear-wheel drive car that vaulted Infiniti into serious contention with long-time segment champions like the BMW 3-Series. As with anything though, there was room for improvement. Infiniti introduced a redesigned G35 for the 2007 model year and it addressed some criticisms lobbed at the previous car, such as the substandard interior. In 2009, the G got an upgraded 3.7-liter VQ powerplant that bumped the designation up to G37. For 2011, the car has been refreshed further,

Infiniti G37 IPL Coupe: More is More

I'm an unabashed fan of Infiniti. They seem to "get" what enthusiasts want much more than their two primary competitors, namely Acura and Lexus.  All three of these Japanese-brand luxury channels have been slinging their wares in the 'states for 20+years now, but while Lexus continues to bark up the "I'm too rich for a Buick" tree and Acura continues to make cars that are - how do I put this nicely - difficult to look at, Infiniti is busy cranking out gorgeous cars on balanced rear wheel drive chassis with massive snarly engines and tons of horsepower for reasonable prices. What they haven't had, until now, is an AMG or M-style performance division.  But when you consider that their cars accelerate faster and handle better than

2011 Infiniti G Getting 2.5-liter V-6

The Infiniti G lineup has always been known primarily by the G35 and G37 designations. Infiniti is unique in that it uses the liter designations for its models. That's why this new rumor is pretty interesting, if only for a marketing standpoint. G25? Looks a bit, odd written down. Edmunds Inside Line is the one to get this scoop. The G37 has been noted for its impressive level of standard horsepower, coming in at 325 ponies in its $33,250 base price. Infiniti wants take things down a bit with a new base model that will help to better tackle the BMW 328i. They plan to use the G25 to do that. With turbocharging, Inside Line says to expect around 250 horsepower from the car's Nissan

First Impressions: Ford Taurus SHO vs. Infiniti G37 6MT

These days, the consumer in the sports sedan market is spoiled for choice. There's pretty much always been the 3-series BMW (and before it the 2002 and the 1600), and there's always been a comparable Audi and Mercedes (at least since the 190E appeared on the scene in the mid eighties), but the field has never been as diverse as it is now. Take, for example, these two seemingly unrelated sedans: the 2009 Infiniti G37 6MT sedan, and the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO EcoBoost.  On paper,  about all they have in common are four wheels with pneumatic tires and a sticker price hovering somewhere around $36,000.  Experiencing both back-to-back just proved exactly how different of a sports sedan your $35k and change will get you these days. This

VIDEO: Infiniti G Walkaround

Ready for another walkaround video? Infiniti has released one of the new G too, along with a recent marathon 8 minute video detailing the M56 and M37. This one is a bit different, showing a bit of driving footage and coming in at just under 2 minutes. It is interesting seeing new vehicles on camera instead of in just still photographs - as has been the case lately, a lot of new vehicles look better in person and this video takes us one step closer to that. Interestingly, it doesn't include any of the interior - probably because not much has changed for the 2010 model year. httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOPfJ4NIh64

LA 2009: Infiniti G37 Images and Info

The Los Angeles International Auto Show is in full swing, and last night Infiniti held a special event at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills to introduce two new models - the M and updated G sedan. The most important was, of course, the new Infiniti M. But, the car that really took off and started Infiniti's ascension into the upper leagues, the G sedan, has gotten some attention too in the form of an update to bring it line with the new M. The front end gets new headlights, reshaped bumper (that includes relocated foglights) and a new grille. Other changes are minor, like new 17-inch alloy wheels and two additional color options - Smoky Quartz and Graphite Shadow. Inside the biggest changes are a revised

Infiniti G37 Convertible Pricing Announced

Well that was a long wait! After being introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2008, Infiniti has finally decided to release pricing for it's anticipated G37 Convertible. That's 7 months later! For buyers interested though, the good news is that the G37 Convertible goes on sale June 19th. To me, the G37 Convertible is a much better looking vehicle with the top down than it's cross-town competitor the IS 250 C (Convertible). BMW vs. Lexus vs. Infiniti battle of the retractable hardtop convertibles! I'm sure that's a comparison we'll see in car magazines this summer. Like always (practically) BMW's entry is the highest priced model in the segment, coming in at $44,550. Infiniti undercuts that price by only $700 with it's $43,850 asking price. Not sure which one

Random Capture: Open Road and Sports Coupe

Nothing in this world goes together more naturally than a powerful GT car and an open road stretching through the desert. Well, perhaps peanut butter and jelly deserve a place on the list, but it pales in comparison for me.  There's something romantic about a taut, powerful GT parked next to a long road leading to the horizon; it might be that it symbolizes the freedoms we are granted as Americans; it might just be a pretty backdrop.  Either way, I've always been a fan. This picture comes to us from the DieselStation forums, via user "joeyredmond."  Joey is a photography genius (obviously) as well as a web guru; he runs an automotive site called PM LifeStyle.  This picture was part of a set
